The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, along with their children Archie and Lilibet, have reportedly been invited to stay at a royal residence when they visit Harry’s home country in July
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, as well as their two children Archie and Lilibet, are expected to head to the UK in just a few weeks to attend a major Invictus Games event. The Duke of Sussex, who founded the Games for injured veterans, is reportedly set to bring his wife and kids to Birmingham in mid-July, marking their first family visit to Harry’s home country in almost four years.
The last time Meghan was in Britain was for the late Queen Elizabeth's funeral in 2022, while Archie and Lilibet last travelled to the UK just months earlier for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
With just weeks to go until Harry and Meghan arrive on British shores, royal sources have claimed the Sussexes have been offered to stay at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle to align with their schedule during the week of their visit.
While it is believed that they are yet to accept the invitation, insiders also revealed that the King is likely to meet Harry and Meghan and the children if a request is made from the Sussexes to see him.
A royal source said: “Any meeting between Harry and Meghan and the King would represent a huge thawing of relations. Despite everything that has occurred in recent years, the King loves his son and daughter-in-law dearly and would relish the chance to see his grandchildren.” If you can't see the poll, click here.
Harry’s relationship with the Royal Family remains strained, as he last saw his father in September last year when he travelled to London for the annual WellChild Awards, of which he is a patron. The Duke travelled to Clarence House for a 50-minute private tea with his father, before he continued with his engagements.
It is not known whether Harry and Meghan, or Harry alone, plans to attempt to see the Prince and Princess of Wales, as sources have described their relationship as “rock bottom” in recent times.
One palace insider said: “The Prince and Princess of Wales remain deeply hurt by Harry and Meghan’s comments since leaving their royal duties that they were abandoned and mistreated when part of the royal family.”
Harry has longed to bring his family back to his homeland for many years, according to reports from News.com.au. An insider told the publication: “It’s been a real point of great sadness – for Harry especially – that he’s been unable to bring his wife and kids back to the UK safely to reconnect with friends and family, but anyone would understand his desire to put their safety first.”
They continued: “He would love to introduce the children to his wider family, to show them the UK, where he grew up – his homeland. That would be a natural thing for any parent."
Another inside source told the Telegraph: “He has wanted to have his kids meet their grandfather, especially after their summit in London last year. While there have been deep-seated trust issues around Harry, there is a sense now that all parties want peace.”
The Duke of Sussex has long spoken about wanting to bring his family to his home country, but says the issue of his limited security detail has been a major obstacle. In May 2025, Harry lost his appeal to reinstate his taxpayer-funded security in the UK, which was replaced with a ‘bespoke’ arrangement after he stepped back as a working royal.
In December, it was revealed that the Home Office had decided to review Harry’s police protection despite his court loss. There has yet to be a public update on the outcome of the assessment.
And while there has yet to be any update on his review, the inside source told news.com.au that protections have been put in place for the Sussexes’ upcoming visit. They said: “You can be assured that if they are coming [to Britain], then he’s satisfied that the conditions have been met to keep them all as safe as possible.”
