Half of Brits say World Cup experience with loved ones matters more than result The World Cup environment seems a key priority as research by a competition prize firm says 41% of people are aiming to recreate a "true matchday atmosphere" in their own homes Almost half of Brits say sharing their World Cup experience with loved ones matters more than the result, a study has revealed. And the environment also appears a key concern as research by prize firm Elite Competitions says 41% of people are aiming to recreate a 'true matchday atmosphere' in their own home. A staggering 25% said they planned to upgrade their viewing setup ahead of the FIFA World Cup, while 33% expected to spend more than £100 in preparation for it. More than two thirds of Brits (67%) plan to watch the majority of matches from home, with comfort, atmosphere and convenience driving viewing habits. However, half (50%) say they would ideally like to experience major sporting moments live, whether that's attending matches abroad or ticking off a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Elite Competitions say the research paints a picture of a nation split between the comfort of home viewing and the pull of a sporting adventure. But almost half (47%) say that atmosphere and the experience of watching together matters more to them than the result, suggesting the tournament has taken on a life well beyond the pitch. The competition business say it shows how Brits see the World Cup as a genuine social moment, with half of sports fans planning to host friends and family. CEO and founder at Elite Competitions Alex Beckett said: "The World Cup has become one of those moments that goes beyond football. "It is about how people experience it, whether that's at home with friends, creating an amazing atmosphere or being there in person. "What's really interesting is how people are investing in those experiences in different ways by upgrading their homes, planning social gatherings or dreaming of being part of something bigger. "That's what we see at Elite Competitions and what we do is make those kinds of moments more accessible through the prizes we offer." For more information you can visit elitecompetitions.co.uk
