After pursuing careers in football, tennis and modelling, 23-year-old Romeo Beckham is making his acting debut in a new French film, set to be released later this year. Romeo Beckham, the son of retired footballer David Beckham and former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, is set to make his acting debut in a tennis themed romantic drama titled Forty Love. Directed by fashion photographer Pierre-Ange Carlotti in his debut feature, the French film will also star Guillaume Canet (The Beach), and acting legend Catherine Deneuve. As reported by Variety, the film will follow a tennis star (played by The Animal Kingdom’s Paul Kircher) on the cusp of winning a major trophy in Paris. However, a charismatic new challenger (played by Beckham) threatens his championship dreams and feelings... “For the first time, he faces an opponent of an entirely different nature - love,” explains the official synopsis. “A force as exhilarating as it is destabilising - and far more dangerous than anything he has encountered on the court.” So, it’s Challengers meets Heated Rivalry with a nepotism twist and a very cringey synopsis? Colour us curious and destabilised. Reactions online haven’t been too enthusiastic... Romeo Beckham previously switched between pursuing careers in football and tennis but left both sports in 2024 to follow a career in fashion. He has worked as a model and brand ambassador for luxury brands including Yves Saint Laurent and Balenciaga. The 23-year-old made headlines last week after being fined for using his phone at the wheel of his Porsche 911, with an unrestrained dog also present in the vehicle. Earlier this year, Romeo’s older brother Brooklyn Beckham made headlines by publicly criticising his parents, accusing them of “controlling” him and “constantly disrespecting” his wife. “I do not want to reconcile with my family,” he said. “I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life. For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family. The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into.” He added: “Recently, I have seen with my own eyes the lengths that they’ll go through to place countless lies in the media, mostly at the expense of innocent people, to preserve their own facade. But I believe the truth always comes out.” Forty Love is currently in post-production and is expected to be released in cinemas on 25 November.
