New analysis of international flight disruption data has found that British travellers heading to Greece this summer could face lengthy delays
Britons with holidays booked in Greece this summer have been put on notice to brace themselves for significant flight delays, as the country's airports have been found to have the longest waiting times.
Fresh analysis of international flight disruption data has revealed that British travellers heading to Greece are more likely to face lengthy hold-ups than those flying to most other European destinations.
The research, carried out by AirAdvisor's flight intelligence platform, measures the proportion of flights delayed by 60 minutes or more, looking at disruption to services between June and September 2025.
Seven popular Greek holiday hotspots, including Kefalonia, Corfu and Rhodes, feature amongst the 20 destinations worst affected by lengthy flight delays during summer 2025.
Although an Italian airport claimed the top spot, Greece as a whole was identified as the most disruption-prone country overall.
The delays are partly attributed to the nation's enormous popularity with Brits and tourists from around the globe.
Many of the airports are also relatively small hubs that frequently operate at full capacity.
Kefalonia in Greece recorded a staggering 11.79 per cent of flights to UK airports being delayed by more than 60 minutes during the period in question.
Anton Radchenko, CEO of AirAdvisor, explains: "Our research found that Greece is by some distance the most disruption-prone country for UK air passengers.
"Seven of the twenty most disrupted destinations for holidays from the UK to Europe are Greek islands, which might not come as a surprise to frequent travellers to these airports.
"They tend to be much smaller than hubs in major metropolitan centres and are incredibly popular with holidaymakers from across the world.
"During the summer period, they frequently operate at maximum capacity, so that means that when a mass disruption event occurs, there are implications for other services.
"When delays start to build up at an airport, a domino effect can occur, causing flights across a single day being pushed back, leading to higher rates of delays, particularly at peak periods."
Government rules state that if your flight is delayed by more than three hours, or if it's cancelled, you could be entitled to compensation.
The overall compensation sum varies depending on how long the delay lasts and how far you're flying.
