Paramount’s $110 Billion Warner Deal Faces EU Moviemaker Test
Paramount Skydance Corp.’s $110 billion takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery Inc. is raising questions over filmmakers’ ability to reach audiences in the European Union, according to the bloc’s antitrust chief.
Regulators are examining “to what extent there is a reduction of the capability of creators” and “producers to come up with ideas in a market that’s quite important in terms of profit,” Teresa Ribera told Bloomberg TV on Wednesday. She added that she wants to know whether there are “alternatives that producers and filmmakers can find” to get their content into homes and movie theaters should the deal go ahead.
