Boy and girl suffer serious injuries after being hit by a car outside primary school A car has struck two children outside Burnwood Primary Academy, Stoke-on-Trent, with both suffering possibly severe injuries and a police investigation is underway A boy and a girl have been taken to hospital after being struck by a car outside a primary school. Police, three ambulances, and the air ambulance had all been sent to Chell Heath this morning where both are understood to have been badly injured. The road outside Burnwood Primary Academy was closed off with police tape put up on and around the pedestrian crossing. It was first understood that the girl had been seriously injured and now West Midlands Ambulance Service have said that the boy suffered 'potentially serious injuries'. The girl was 'stabilised' at the scene before both were taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital. Staffordshire Police has confirmed the driver of the car involved, a white Toyota, remained at the scene as an investigation into the incident is now underway. The alarm was raised at 8.30am with the air ambulance also touching down on the fields between the school and Canterbury Drive, reported Stoke-on-TrentLive. A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service says the crew was called to reports a car had struck two children while they were crossing the road. She said: "Crews arrived to find a girl and a boy who had been injured in a collision with a car. The girl sustained serious injuries and received trauma care from the team of ambulance staff. "Once stabilised, the girl was conveyed by land ambulance on blue lights and sirens to Royal Stoke University Hospital. The boy sustained potentially serious injuries and was treated on scene before being taken to the same hospital for further checks. The driver of the car, a woman, was assessed but declined hospital treatment.” Police have issued an appeal for witnesses who saw the crash to come forward to help with the investigation. A spokeswoman said: "We are appealing for information following a collision involving a car and two pedestrians in Stoke-on-Trent. We were called to Chell Heath Road following reports of a collision involving a white Toyota and two children who were on foot. "Officers attended the scene alongside colleagues from West Midlands Ambulance Service. Both children received medical treatment at the scene before being taken to hospital. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening at this time. "The driver of the Toyota remained at the scene and is assisting with our enquiries." Witnesses should call 101 and quote incident 232 of June 24. [Image text:] POLICE ROAD CLOSED
