Tactical Aid officers have been seen searching the ground of an area beside Rochdale Road in Harpurhey throughout Tuesday (June 23) after police received a report that a 16-year-old girl had been raped. As part of an ongoing investigations, land close to a shopping centre and former Bernard Manning’s Embassy Club have been sealed off with fingertip searches carried out throughout the day. The attack on the girl is said to have taken place on Sunday afternoon (June 21) and she is currently being supported by specialist officers. A number of police vehicles were at the scene throughout Tuesday with pathways also closed off," reported the Manchester Evening News. "The tape got put up about 11am I’ve been up since 8 and I’ve not seen anything happen on the fields,” one man said. Another woman, a nearby resident, said: "It couldn’t have happened this morning, I went to the shops, came back and they were putting the tape up. All anyone knows is it was an incident." Greater Manchester Police later confirmed the ongoing rape investigation and urged anyone with information to get in touch. A force spokesperson said: "Officers investigating reports of a rape in Harpurhey have been undertaking enquiries in the area as they continue their investigation. "Shortly after 8pm last night (22 June), a 16-year-old girl disclosed a report of a rape on Sunday afternoon close to the Rochdale Road area of Harpurhey. Enquiries are currently ongoing and specialist officers are continuing to support the girl as we work to establish the full circumstances.
