UK heatwave to feel like 50C as heat dome dubbed 'Sizzler from the South' looms EXCLUSIVE: Parts of Britain will "feel like 50C" as the heatwave intensifies, a top forecaster has warned, with the "Sizzler from the South" already breaking temperature records The heatwave is only set to get hotter, a leading forecaster has said - with temperatures feeling more like 50C in some parts of the country tomorrow. The UK experienced its warmest June day on record today as the mercury rocketed to 36.1C in Gosport, Hampshire, breaking a weather record that had been in place for 50 years. A red health warning for extreme heat meaning "a risk to life for even the healthy population" is set to continue into Thursday, covering much of the south of England and Wales - while rail bosses are warning of further disruption following a day of delays and cancellations caused by the hot weather. 'It could well be worse' It comes as a trapped, high-pressure hot air that has seen temperatures top 44C in France shifts over the Channel towards the British Isles, with the new eye of this "heat dome" centred in southwest England British Weather Services' senior meteorologist Jim Dale told the Mirror: "It could well be worse on Thursday - we're in the middle of the Sizzler from the South. "We've got the heat dome in position now, and as the south west front starts to move into the cooler air, you start to drag in more hot air from France and Spain - and eventually North Africa - so all of that starts to add to the hot weather pie. "This is the important bit; the humidity. The heat index, which is a combination of temperature and humidity, temperature and humidity, could well be 10C more than the actual air temperature. So when we say 40C, if it ever reaches that, it will feel like 50C, and that's why there's going to be a problem. "It's Marmite weather; you either love it and enjoy it, or you suffer... and the sufferers are going to feel it big time." Tips to stay cool in hot weather Here's the forecaster's top tips for staying cool during this spell of record-breaking hot weather: - Freeze your pyjamas: Try taking "your pyjamas or your nightdress, putting it in the freezer and pulling it out to wear at night time" for quick relief. - Make your hot water bottle icy instead: Swap out the boiling water and "put icy water into a hot water bottle" to keep yourself cool. - Cool your extremities: Dip your fingers and toes into a bowl of icy water for five minutes to safely and quickly lower your core body temperature. This is especially effective "babies and children", Jim said. - Stick to the basics: Ensure you "keep fans, keep out of the sun, keep hydrated."
