Donald Trump gives bizarre speech about how great he is at 250th Anniversary celebration Donald Trump last night launched America's 250th anniversary celebrations with an event so brazenly partisan that Kash Patel's girlfriend sang the national anthem Donald Trump last night launched America's 250th anniversary celebrations with an event so brazenly partisan that Kash Patel's girlfriend sang the national anthem. Oh, don't get me wrong. It was the most extravagant, blockbuster-and presumably costly Trump rally I've ever seen. But make no mistake about it, it was a Trump rally - and it was never going to be a nonpartisan event. The final event was bodged together at the last minute, after Trump's 250th celebration committee tried to hoodwink a bunch of musical artists into a nakedly pro-Trump event. In the end all of them except Vanilla Ice smelled a rat and pulled out. So Trump threw His toys out of the prom, and decided to not only replace the entire concert series with a rally-but "the rally to end all rallies" Sadly, he's holding another rally on the national mall about half a mile away on July 4. So it's only the rally to indoor rallies for about a week and a half. Meanwhile, in Trumpworld - Sean Duffy keeps it classy - Welcome to the Praeger U Smithsonian - Trump is VERY concerned about communism - Trump tried to establish the ballroom on the same level as the Washington Monument - And he torpedoes housing bill to push voter ID law - Andy who? Here's everything you need to know Sean Duffy keeps it classy Among the many warmer acts for Donald Trump's speech was transport secretary Sean Duffy, who put in a deeply odd appearance on the stage. He humbled on with what appeared to be his entire family in time, and proceeded to berate the audience for not having enough babies. "Modern culture has told our young people that they shouldn't look for love. They shouldn't have a family, shouldn't have kids," he said. "Instead focus on their education, their careers, their bank accounts. This is the dumbest advice they could ever get. We should look for love, get married, and have lots of kids! Right? It's a lot of fun." He also branded the artists who pulled out of the event "Libtards". Stay classy, Sean. Welcome to the Prager U Smithsonian Tucked in one corner of the field, Trump fans could visit the Freedom Truck. Unless I'll speculated lorry and several of us like it been touring the country in recent weeks, educating Americans about the founding story of their nation. It includes a CGI George Washington, a version of the American story, and a wall featuring the faces of 50 American heroes. By our count, all but nine of those faces were white. Exhibits were developed by Prager U, a Trump-adjacent right wing "university" which is trying to muscle in on education at the state level. And succeeding. Prager U has variously been accused of racism, sexism and seeking to race slavery from American history. They will no doubt be delighted that they weird little sideshow is named nestled between the legendary museums of the Smithsonian Institute Trump is VERY concerned about communism Trump's latest preoccupation appears to be the slate of democratic socialist candidates backed by New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, that swept the Democratic primary earlier this week. During a hazard visit to Congress, which will get to you later, Trump indicated that all of the reasons he's pushing hard for the safe America act it's because "they want a lot of communists to come in. I'm saying it a little bit differently, but the people they're pushing the communists and this country is not gonna have communists." Which is weird, because I thought the SAVE America act was about ensuring only people with the right to vote can vote, but Trump seemed to be saying the SAVE America act was about ensuring people can't vote for the "wrong people". And he brought it up again in appointed aside during his speech. He said: "We fought two world wars. We defeated fascism and communism - we're going to have to do that again. " None of this will give any comfort to people expecting Trump to use any in all excuses to declare November's mid termination is Nolan void, if they don't deliver the candidates he wants. Trump tried to elevate the ballroom to the same level as the Washington Monument Weirdly for a speech that on the face of it was supposed to be celebrating 250 years of American greatness Trump spent quite a long time indicating you saw everything was rubbish until he came along. I at one point he tried to elevate his vanity ballroom and bunker project to the same status as the Washington monument itself. Quote for the hundredth anniversary," space he said, "America completed the Washington monument… We are likewise building new monuments to American greatness. We're building a ballroom." Trump torpedoes housing bill to push voter ID law There's a lot of ways to describe the SAVE America act. But the best way to think about it is that it's a bill intended to make it harder to vote. It includes a raft of measures, including strict photo ID requirements and onerous restrictions on who can vote by mail - something Trump has repeatedly and falsely claimed is prone to fraud. And the whole bill is predicated on the idea that there is widespread and rampant fraud in American elections, which purely by repetition from has managed to get 30% of Americans to believe despite being manifestly untrue. Well, yesterday, to the surprise of everyone, Trump decided to hold a popular, bipartisan bill to make it easier to build and buy houses to ransom - refusing to sign it until the SAVE America bill gets voted through. Which it never will - Trump doesn't have the votes he would need to get it past a Democratic filibuster. And the deliciously chaotic bit is that - presumably because he only just decided to do it - some Republican members of Congress found out that Trump had U-turn and would not be supporting the bill in the middle of a press conference where they were rowing that they had support from the White House. And while he did eventually turn up on the Hill for a luncheon, Trump's and takes that morning made house speaker Mike Johnson appear uncharacteristically miffed by the President. Andy who? Trump gave his first assessment of Andy Burnham yesterday - and he didn't appear hopeful. Trump was asked about the potential successor to Keir Starmer during a Q*A session in the Oval Office. "I don't know anything," he admitted. "I see that he was, I guess, the mayor of a town. I hear he's extremely liberal - extremely. So I guess he won't open up the North Sea." Trump has frequently moaned about the UK's decision to halt licences to drill in the North Sea for a number of reasons. Restarting drilling would almost certainly benefit American companies bidding for licences. But another major factor is his decades-long vendetta against wind farms, which stems from the Scottish government erecting turbines off the coast of Aberdeen next to his luxury golf course. Trump went on: "You know, I gave Keir Starmer some pretty good advice, I said "Open up the North Sea". I said "go to Aberdeen which is the hottest city in the whole continent, it was the oil city, it was the oil of Europe. It was terrible."
