The Chicago Mercantile Exchange plans to launch wind derivatives across three continents, according to a person familiar with the matter, as the role of renewable energy in power generation grows.
The CME has proposed contracts covering the grid in Texas, markets in the UK and Germany, as well as Victoria state in Australia, the person said. Derivatives could be launched in the coming months, although plans are yet to be finalized, they added, asking not to be identified discussing private information.
