Another child has died after getting locked inside a car in France as the country endures scorching temperatures.
The thee-year-old child was found dead by his parents Wednesday evening in Saint-Gratien in northern Paris.
Emergency services were called around 7pm after the child was discovered in cardiac arrest locked in the family vehicle as temperatures hit 39C in the region. Firefighters attempted to resuscitate the child, but he passed away despite their best efforts.
The child had reportedly locked himself inside his parents' car, which was parked in front of the family home, without telling anyone.
His parents reportedly lost sight of him for about 45 minutes. Shortly before he was last seen he had said he wanted to take a nap, Le Parisien reports. His parents reportedly asked him to go to his room to go to bed but for reasons unknown, he apparently chose to lock himself in the car.
It was only after three quarters of an hour that his parents began searching for him, not finding him in his bed. Upon finding him lifeless in the car parked outside the family home his mother let out a cry that echoed throughout the neighbourhood, local media reported.
Her cries alerted a passing bus driver who reportedly got out of his vehicle, jumped over the gate of the house, and began performing first aid until the emergency services arrived.
The news comes after two children, aged two and four, were found unresponsive inside a car at a property in France on Monday during a heatwave which has sent temperatures surging above 40C.
The youngsters, aged two and four, are understood to have been discovered unresponsive in the family car, which was parked in the garage of a detached property in the Bois de l'Ubac neighbourhood of Carpentras, France.
Despite resuscitation attempts by emergency services, both children died and a manslaughter investigation has been opened following the tragedy.
Europe is currently experiencing one of the most intense heat waves in recent memory, with record-breaking temperatures, maximum alerts, and significant impacts in several countries.
At least 48 people have died in France from drowning since the onset of the conditions while trying to cool off, authorities said, and in another death potentially linked to the heat in Saint-Gratien a 79-year-old man was found in cardiac arrest at his home yesterday around 10:30 p.m. He could not be revived.
