Samsung Teams Up With US Battery Startup Seeking Pentagon Cash
Samsung SDI Co. has agreed to provide $20 million and engineering support to Forge Nano Inc., a US battery startup aiming to build cells for the US defense and aerospace industries at a new plant in North Carolina.
The agreement, which also calls for Samsung to buy cells from Forge Nano, allows the South Korean battery maker to sidestep tariffs with American-made cells. It enables Samsung to comply with upcoming regulations seeking to purge Chinese materials from the US military supply chain while providing the startup with the capital and manufacturing expertise it needs to scale its technology.
