Teenage boy's body recovered from Leicestershire lake The boy was seen entering the lake in Syston as temperatures broke records across the country during a waring for extreme heat - this is a breaking story The body of a teenage boy who was seen entering a lake in Leicestershire on the hottest day of the year has been recovered. Officers were called just after 1.30pm to Meynell Lake in Fosse Way yesterday, along with Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service and East Midlands Ambulance Service. Police divers were also called in and Leicestershire Police have today confirmed that a person has been recovered from the water. The boy's family have been informed of the development and are being supported by specialist officers. Leicestershire Police said there is no suggestion of any suspicious circumstances and a file will be prepared for the coroner to establish the full circumstances in which the boy lost his life. The force added that naming the victim will be a matter for the coroner. A statement reads: "Specialist police dive teams searching for a teenage boy following reports he entered a lake in Syston yesterday afternoon (Thursday 25 June) have recovered a person from the water. "We can confirm it is the teenager known to have entered the lake and his family are being supported specialist officers." The incident took place as the UK recorded temperatures of up to 40C, with a red and an amber warning for extreme heat covering most of England and Wales. Leicestershire is under an amber warning for extreme heat until midnight tonight, meaning temperatures are expected to exceed 30C and potentially peak around 38C. At the beginning of June, The Mirror launched the "Save Lives for Sam" campaign to stop the "catastrophic" deaths of 33 children who drown in England every year - "the equivalent of a classroom of children lost". Drowning in the UK has become an "epidemic" and a "national emergency," campaigners say. The UK has seen a horrifying death toll of 19 children and adults killed in water related incidents during one week, in a record-breaking heatwave from May 24 to May 31.
