Two teenagers have been killed and a 16-year-old boy is fighting for his life in hospital following a horrific crash involving multiple vehicles on the A13 in Newham
Two teenagers have died and a 16-year-old boy is in hospital with life-threatening injuries following a horror crash on the A13.
Scotland Yard said emergency services responded to reports of a multi-vehicle collision on the eastbound carriageway in Newham at 8.15pm on Thursday.
Two men aged 18 and 19 were pronounced dead at the scene, and three people are in hospital, including a 16-year-old boy with life-threatening injuries.
Police said three men aged 18, 19 and 23, have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop, and remain in custody.
Detective Chief Inspector James Beck, from the Met's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, has appealed for anyone who saw the incident or have dashcam footage to get in touch.
He said that the force is aware of videos circulating on social media and has urged people to be respectful and instead contact the police if they have information.
"Our thoughts remain with the victims' loved ones following this tragic incident," he said.
"As we work to build a picture of the circumstances, we are keen to hear from any witnesses to the collision - particularly those with dashcam footage.
"We are aware of videos circulating on social media which appear to show the aftermath of the collision. We remind people to be respectful of the impact of this footage and encourage people not to share and instead contact police directly if they have information."
A statement from the Met Police read: "Officers are appealing for information following a fatal collision on the A13 in Newham. Emergency services responded to reports of a multi-vehicle collision on the eastbound carriageway at 20:15hrs on Thursday, 25 June.
"Despite the best efforts of first responders, two men aged 18 and 19 were sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Their next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
"Three people were taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service where they remain, including a 16-year-old boy with life-threatening injuries.
"Three men aged 18, 19 and 23, have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop. They remain in custody and enquiries are ongoing within the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit."
