Man in hospital with serious injuries after horror dog attack police thought was stabbing Greater Manchester Police initially said its officers were responding to a stabbing on Ormskirk Road but the confirmed the incident was a dog attack A man has suffered serious injuries during a dog attack in Greater Manchester during an incident initially believed by officers to be a stabbing. Greater Manchester Police were initially called to reports of a stabbing on Wednesday on Ormskirk Road. An air ambulance landed nearby on an Aldi car park. However, after further enquiries, the force said the incident was actually a dog attack on nearby Albert Street in the Newtown area, Manchester Evening News reports. A man in his 30s was taken to hospital with serious injuries but his condition is now stable. Four people were arrested in connection with the incident on suspicion of ownership of a dangerous and out of control dog. They are three men and one woman. All four have since been released on bail, while the dog was out down. A police spokesperson said: "On Wednesday, June 24, officers were called to reports of a stabbing on Albert Street in Wigan. "Upon arrival, officers confirmed the incident was actually a dog attack where the dog caused serious injuries to a man in his 30s. The victim was taken to hospital and is in a stable condition. "Three men and one woman were arrested on suspicion of ownership of a dangerous and out of control dog and have all been interviewed and bailed. Enquiries are still ongoing but we do not believe that this was an intentional attack and the dog has been put down. "There is no wider threat to the public in relation to this incident."
