Met Office forecasts temperature to plummet 19C as UK heatwave ends The UK heatwave is officially ending with temperatures forecast to plummet as the Met Office predict 'fresher' temperatures with a 'much lower likelihood of further impacts' The Met Office has forecast the end of the heatwave today as temperatures are expected to plummet by 19C, relieving some of the disruption the extreme heat has caused across the nation. The UK's record for hottest June day ever was broken for three consecutive days this week, on Wednesday, Thursday and again on Friday when the mercury soared to 37.3C in Santon Downham, a village in Suffolk. However, some areas across the UK will sit at 18C today, a huge drop from the highs felt earlier this week. According to the forecaster in some southern areas there will still be highs of 27C. But, this sits under the official heatwave conditions. The weather channel said that Sunday will be "much fresher" in comparison to recent days. In London, the temperature is expected to sit comfortably at 21C before climbing up to highs of 26C this afternoon. In the West Midlands, temperatures are forecast to sit at 18C, dropping 19C from the high of over 37C that was recorded in the UK this week. Temperatures are expected to be even cooler in Glasgow at 15C and parts of Northern Ireland at 13C. The Met Office's forecast for the day said: "Patchy outbreaks of rain in the west today, gradually moving east. Sunny spells elsewhere and feeling hot and humid again in eastern England. A fresher feel elsewhere with a gentle breeze." The forecast for the evening said: "Cloudy in northwest Scotland with outbreaks of rain. Drier elsewhere with clear spells. "A much fresher night compared to recent days" Although lower temperatures are forecast, an amber weather warning for extreme heat remains in place in some areas as 'hot and humid weather will continue over parts of east and southeast England'. This warning runs until 9am, when temperatures are due to start dropping. The Met Office said: "Temperatures overnight Saturday into Sunday remain unlikely to fall below high teens Celsius for most, with a few places not dropping below 20 Celsius. "This will again be accompanied by high humidity at first, but fresher conditions will steadily become established from the west during the latter part of the night. "Another hot day is expected in the far east of the region on Sunday, but both temperatures and humidity lower than recent days with a much lower likelihood of further impacts."
