Man denies murder charge after Nottinghamshire footballer killed five others hurt by car Duane Anthony, who is accused of murdering Woodthorpe Park Rangers player Tyler Fairman, will face trial at Nottingham Crown Court A man accused of murdering a Nottinghamshire footballer and attempting to murder five others has pleaded not guilty. Duane Anthony, 40, will face trial at Nottingham Crown Court in October following an incident on Market Place, Arnold, in the early hours of May 9. Anthony is accused of murdering non-league footballer Tyler Fairman, a 26-year-old father-of-one who was also expecting a baby girl. The incident took place as a Vauxhall Astra car was reportedly driven into a group of pedestrians, which included Mr Fairman, after an end-of-season night out. Mr Fairman's team, Woodthorpe Park Rangers, confirmed three of their members, including the manager, were involved in the incident. Anthony, of Marton Road, Bulwell, appeared in court today by video link from HMP Manchester and spoke only to enter pleas and confirm his name during the 18-minute hearing. Defence barrister Sue Rodham told the court Anthony did not dispute being the driver of the car, but had "no intention to kill or to cause really serious bodily harm". Numerous friends and relatives of Mr Fairman watched proceedings from the public gallery as Anthony pleaded not guilty to murder and five counts of attempting to murder five other named individuals, who are all adults. He also denied a charge of driving while disqualified. Adjourning the case, Recorder of Nottingham Judge Nirmal Shant KC told Anthony: "As far as you are concerned, your trial is listed for October 7. But there is to be a listing before then on September 2 that is designed to ensure that everything is in place for the trial to be effective." In a tribute issued shortly after his death, Mr Fairman’s family said: "There are no words now, nor will there ever be, to truly describe how broken this has left us all. Our hearts are shattered, and the world has become a much darker place without him in it."
