Burgum went on to claim that gas prices were 53 cents cheaper per gallon in "red states" compared to "blue states." "Gas up in a red state. On average nationally right now this weekend it’s 53 cents cheaper per gallon to fill up your car in a red state than it is in a blue state," he stated. According to the American Automobile Association, the national gas price average per gallon is $3.86 as of Monday (29 June). Some states, such as California, saw prices of more than $5 per gallon.
