As of early June, the AI giant had released Mythos to only 200 partner organizations because if a tool this powerful fell into the wrong hands, Anthropic said, it could help attackers more easily steal data or disrupt critical infrastructure. Despite these precautions, in mid-June the Trump administration ordered tighter controls on Mythos 5 and another advanced model, and Anthropic shut off access for all customers. The Commerce Department later allowed Anthropic to restore Mythos access for a small group of approved organizations.
