Finding the perfect sunbed on an all-inclusive holiday can sometimes feel harder than booking the trip itself. So when one solo traveller finally settled in for a relaxing day by the pool, she was less than impressed when another guest decided to make themselves at home - by taking over the table she'd been using all morning.
Sharing her experience on Reddit, the holidaymaker explained she is currently staying at an all-inclusive resort in Turkey, and had spent the day relaxing on the same sunbed. She had been using the small table beside it to keep her Kindle and drink, deliberately leaving plenty of room in case someone on the neighbouring sunbed wanted to use it too. However, a quick trip to the bathroom changed everything.
She said: "I’m currently on a solo holiday at an all-inclusive resort in Turkey. I’ve been at the same sunbed all day and there’s a table next to me which I’ve been using for my Kindle and my drink. I purposely didn’t use up the whole table just in case someone sat on the other side and wanted to use it too.
"Anyway, I went to the bathroom and when I came back, a group of people had taken the sunbeds next to me and one woman had thrown all her stuff on the table. Her handbag, her three drinks, her hair clips, her moisturiser."
When she returned to her sunbed, she was shocked to find her empty glass had been moved onto the floor while the stranger's belongings covered almost the entire table. Trying not to let it ruin her holiday, she decided to head off for lunch instead.
But when she came back, the woman had somehow managed to spread even more of her belongings across the shared space. Looking for a little more sunshine, the holidaymaker moved her sunbed slightly - causing the woman's handbag, which had been leaning against it, to tumble onto the floor with its contents spilling out. Rather than ignore it, she tried to be polite.
She added: "I was like, 'Excuse me, your bag,' and she totally ignored me. I spoke again and she ignored me again. I think she didn't speak English but at least acknowledge me? She had no headphones on and I swear it was like she was pointedly trying not to look my way."
The woman picked up the scattered belongings herself, put everything back into the handbag and placed it back on the table.
But it wasn't long before she got the last laugh.
A short while later, the holidaymaker noticed the woman getting up and walking over to a second sunbed she had reserved - one in the shade to go alongside the one she'd claimed in the sun.
The moment the handbag disappeared from the table, she wasted no time reclaiming her space.
She said: "She got up to go to her SECOND sunbed - she'd picked one in the sun and one in the shade - and moved her bag, and I instantly put my stuff back on the table."
Commenting on the post, one user said: "I never go to all-inclusives for many reasons, but the clientele is probably the biggest reason."
Another user added: "Is it common in Turkey to keep a sunbed for the day and leave multiple times, including to go to lunch, and expect nobody else to use it or it's table?"
A third user said: "You purposely didn’t use the whole table, in case someone else came along and water to use it too. Someone came along and used it, and you got annoyed?"
