'I sat in Royal box with David Beckham at Wimbledon – two words describe him perfectly' David Beckham grabbed the headlines as he attended the opening day of Wimbledon on Monday David Beckham wowed guests in the Royal Box at Wimbledon on Monday. The Inter Miami co-owner, who manages his time in both the UK and USA, was sitting front row in the Royal Box to watch Jannik Sinner open up his title defence against Serbia's Miomir Kecmanovic. The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star, 50, makes something of a ritual of attending the All England Club. In 2025, fashion influencer and journalist Joanne Hegarty sat close to the England hero in the Royal Box. The Chic List columnist said, via HELLO: "Everyone there was looked after very well by the committee. And for me, it was exciting to watch the opening tournament game with celebrities like David Beckham." She then summed up Beckham with two words. She added: "He was very chatty and friendly and brought his mum as a plus one." The Royal Box comes with its own strict set of rules that patrons must adhere to. Men are required to wear a suit or a jacket and tie, while women are asked to refrain from wearing hats that can obscure the view of those seated behind. JOIN US ON FACEBOOK! All the best sports news and much more on our dedicated Facebook page Hegarty revealed she even took inspiration from the Beckhams for her outfit. "I wanted to wear something smart and dressy," she explained. Something in crisp white was a forefront Wimbledon option. I wore a skirt by Toteme and ironically, my top is Victoria Beckham, which I passed onto David when I spoke to him!" This year, Beckham looked dapper in a brown suit as he attended with his mother, Sandra. The former midfielder turned heads, and lived up to his friendly reputation, as he took a series of photos with fellow guests, including ex-Great British Bake Off star Dame Mary Berry. Beckham also grabbed a picture of himself with his mum. He then requested a group picture with Berry and Deborah Jevans, the chair of the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club. Eagle-eyed fans may have noticed that just days ago, Beckham was in attendance as England beat Panama at the World Cup in New Jersey/New York. The ex-Three Lions captain has been a regular presence around his country's games so far. However, it's unclear if Beckham will jet back to the States for England's crucial Round of 32 game against DR Congo on Wednesday in Atlanta, Georgia. It could be a slight issue for Beckham if he chooses to attend SW19 on that day. Wimbledon officials have said they will "discourage" VIPs in its royal box from keeping an eye on the World Cup. England's second-round clash against DR Congo will also not be shown on the screens. Sally Bolton OBE, Chief Executive of the All England Lawn Tennis Club, said: "We're not going to be showing the football on any of the big screens around the grounds, but clearly, if people have got their phones, then we're not going to prevent people from watching the football." Asked about whether they will stop VIPs in the royal box watching on their phones, Bolton said: "We do discourage people in the royal box from using their phones anyway." Wimbledon 2026 is just around the corner and Seat Unique has tickets on sale now with VIP access.
