Australian police hunt for mystery author behind more than 100 threatening letters The author, believed to be a Caucasian man in his 60s, sent out letters to parliamentarians and community leaders over a decade - Bookmark - CommentsGo to comments Police in Australia are hunting for an author who has sent out more than 100 threatening letters to a "wide range" of community figures and one religious institution. The News South Wales and Australian federal police have appealed to the public to track down the author who signs off letters as "Scorpio" and "Bullit". The investigators have released excerpts of the letters, which they say were sent to parliamentarians, religious organisations and community leaders between 2015 and 2026. The seized letters "constitute harassing or threatening behaviour" and have undergone forensic examination, according to authorities. A letter threatening violence against Muslims and laced with references to the “Aryan race” was sent to the Lakemba Mosque in suburban Sydney earlier in February, the police said, according to The Australian. A similar letter was also sent to popular Australian pro-Palestinian activist Josh Lees. The police said they have released excerpts of the letters in the hope that someone may recognise the handwriting of the mystery author. The NSW police said the author used prominent capitalisation of the letters ‘F, L, T, N and H’ and also included “newspaper clippings, snips of headlines and images of prominent people”. Much of the writing reportedly related to national affairs and issues of community interest, said NSW acting superintendent John Walke. Investigators believe the letter writer to be a Caucasian man aged in his 60s. "We are appealing to the community if they recognise any of the symbols or names in the letter excerpts and can relate them to someone of that profile, to please let police know,” Mr Walke said. He added: "We are determined to bring this person to account because their behaviour is certainly offensive and at times threatening, and people deserve to be able to go about their work without being subjected to threats." Federal police superintendent Nathan Robertson said there were “very real” concerns about the content of the letters, which reportedly featured instances of white supremacy. “People in public life deserve to go about their jobs or careers without being subject to harassment or threats,” he said. “Our investigations are into allegations of criminal behaviour, but we also have concerns about whether the person responsible for them has access to appropriate health and support services.” Join our commenting forum Join thought-provoking conversations, follow other Independent readers and see their replies Comments [Image text:] OUR DEAR FRiENd'S ScoRpio.
