Mystery surrounds England fan’s whereabouts after he vanished while travelling for World Cup Mr Hewitt said his brother was known to many as Leeds United super fan ‘Little Mick’ - Bookmark - CommentsGo to comments An urgent appeal has been launched by the family of Michael Hewitt, an England football fan who went missing while travelling to Boston for the World Cup. Mr Hewitt left Leeds, West Yorkshire, on 20 June, planning to reach the US via Barcelona for one of England’s group matches. His family has not heard from him for over a week. Posting an appeal on social media, Gary Hewitt said: “He doesn’t seem to have made it to Boston, and our last contact with him was from Barcelona in the early hours of Sunday morning, 21st June. “Since then, his phone has been out of service and he hasn’t posted any updates on social media. As you can imagine, we are now very worried for his safety.” Mr Hewitt said his brother was known to many as Leeds United super fan “Little Mick”, adding that he would be “a familiar face to lots of Whites fans across the globe, having followed the Club home and away for decades”. The family have appealed for anyone who has seen or had contact with Michael Hewitt since 21 June to contact the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). They said Interpol had been alerted to his disappearance, and were hoping to learn soon if he had made it to the US or remained in Barcelona. An FCDO spokesperson said: “We are supporting the family of a British man reported missing in Spain and are in contact with the local authorities.” Join our commenting forum Join thought-provoking conversations, follow other Independent readers and see their replies Comments
