Man dead and two others fighting for life after suspected arson attack on Gold Coast home A neighbour told reporters he had noticed 'a lot of screaming' coming from the home in the days leading up to the fire - the house has been 'extensively damaged' One person is dead, and a further two are fighting for life in hospital following a shock housefire overnight that first responders believe may have been started deliberately. Firefighters raced to reports of a house on fire at Hope Island, on Australia's sunny Gold Coast. When emergency crews arrived at a Sickle Avenue address shortly after 11.30pm on Tuesday local time, they found a home well alight. The house was "extensively" damaged in the blaze. One side of the building collapsed as it was engulfed by flames, while damage also made its way into the ceiling space with video footage showing of the fire showing flames and smoke billowing from the roof of the home. Although the fire seemed to be spreading quickly on arrival, fire crews were able to bring the blaze under control within the hour. A 38-year-old man was assessed by paramedics and declared dead at the scene, the Queensland Ambulance Service confirmed while two other men, aged 44 and 84, were rushed to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital in life threatening conditions. Both had suffered burns to their head, chest, back, arms and legs. A 59-year-old woman was taken to the nearby Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition. She was admitted with back, hip and leg injuries, while another man, 38, was escaped from the home but uninjured. According to the Daily Mail, authorities believe the home was targeted in an arson attack with the culprit believed to be the man found dead at the scene. A crime scene has been declared while police and fire crews investigate further into what happened at the Gold Coast home. Neighbour David Da Silver told the Mail he saw smoke and five police cars near the property at around 2am, with the entire street blocked off by emergency crews. He told Brisbane paper the Courier-Mail: "There was a lot of screaming (coming from the house in recent days)." Another local, who is believed to have helped the victims in the moments after they fled from their home in flames, said those who had been inside were “shaken up” by the incident. “They didn’t know what happened, I feel like they were just waking up, they came out in their boxers,” he said. Queensland Police are appealing to anyone with information to come forward, as well as anyone with relevant CCTV, dashcam footage or other vision from the area around the time of the incident.
