French natural gas consumers are set to pay more for network maintenance over the coming decades as falling demand for the fuel means the infrastructure will be financed by fewer users, the industry regulator said.
Network tariffs — which currently account for about a third of a household’s gas bill — may need to increase by 3.5% annually above inflation until 2050 if consumption declines rapidly, the Commission de Regulation de l’Energie said Wednesday in a report. They could rise 0.2% if demand retreats slowly, CRE said.
