Family of boy, 3, 'thrown into' crocodile enclosure break silence to praise rescuers The boy was taken to hospital in critical condition after the incident at Johnson’s of Old Hurst and remains there in stable condition after undergoing multiple surgeries The family of a three-year-old boy who was in critical condition after he was allegedly thrown into a crocodile enclosure at a zoo have spoken out. The toddler, who has not been named, is now stable after undergoing a number of surgeries. He remains at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge and faces a long road to recovery following the incident at Johnson's of Old Hurst near Huntingdon on June 18. A 30-year-old man from Norfolk was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following the incident. He has since been released on bail after being found not to be fit for interview. In a statement, the injured boy's family said: "We would like to thank the staff at the zoo who rescued our son from the enclosure. We are truly grateful for the public support and well-wishes we have received, as well as to everyone who has been directly involved in our son's care and recovery in hospital. "Our attention remains focused on his recovery and supporting him through this extremely challenging and prolonged period of time." A fundraising page has also now been launched to support the boy's recovery and rehabilitation process and his "young family". The page reads: "Thanks to the extraordinary bravery and quick actions of those nearby, the little boy was rescued by the zoo owners and rushed to hospital in a critical condition. After undergoing multiple surgeries, his condition is now stable, but he faces a long road to recovery. "His parents are currently by his side in hospital, supporting him through both immediate and ongoing care physically and psychologically." The fundraiser states that the financial support will help the boy in his "recovery and rehabilitation in the upcoming months and years ahead". Any remaining funds will be donated to charities and organisations within the Addenbrooke's Trust "to support other families facing similar challenges". Lucy Lockett, the starter of the fundraiser, wrote: "The family are deeply grateful for the kindness, prayers, and well wishes they have received."
