British TikTok star arrested in Dubai 'murder' as 'new witnesses' twist sparks urgent plea
As Brooke George remains in custody after being charged with murder after the death of William Treeby, potential witnesses may have key evidence say campaign group Detained in Dubai
New witnesses could have ‘key evidence’ stored on their mobile phones in the murder case of a British woman who could face death by firing squad if convicted.
Brooke George, 23, remains in custody in Dubai after being charged over the death of William Treeby, 26, during an incident at an apartment in the Middle East last week. The well-known TikToker, from Gravesend in Kent, says she acted in self-defence after allegedly being attacked - but could be put to death if found guilty.
Detained in Dubai, the campaign group which helps foreigners in the city, has now submitted what it described as "relevant information and intelligence" to UK and UAE authorities.
It has been reported that five people - former shop worker Brooke, William, two of his male friends and a maid - were at his apartment on the night of the stabbing. It is claimed that one of the men present at the time is wanted by Kent Police.
Campaigners believe information stored on the mens' mobile phones could help establish a timeline of events and identify other witnesses. The group stressed that anyone in Britain who received calls from the apartment in the hours after the man's death should be interviewed, The Sun reported.
Detained in Dubai's Radha Stirling said the organisation had submitted intelligence to "the appropriate UK authorities, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, the UAE authorities and His Excellency Mansoor Abdullah Khalfan Juma Abulhoul, the UAE Ambassador to the United Kingdom."
The London-based legal advocacy group's CEO said: "Given the gravity of the proceedings and the potential consequences Brooke George faces, we believe it is imperative that every appropriate avenue is explored to ensure that all relevant information is properly considered.
"Where a young British citizen is facing the possibility of the death penalty overseas, there must be a diligent, impartial and comprehensive investigation, with every reasonable effort made to identify, preserve and examine relevant evidence. Justice cannot depend upon incomplete evidence or overlooked lines of enquiry."
Any available mobile phone evidence must be secured before it can be deleted or lost forever, they say and Radha Stirling added: "Nothing less is acceptable where a person's life may ultimately be at stake.
It comes after the Mirror revealed that Treeby was convicted of unlawful wounding and common assault at Maidstone Crown Court in December 2023, in relation to an attack on a woman and a man. He was sentenced to 14 months in prison, suspended for two years.
A Foreign Office spokesperson said: "We are in touch with a British woman detained in the UAE, we are supporting her family, and we are in contact with the local authorities."
The mum of the influencer has, meanwhile, said her daughter was 'crying uncontrollably' in a phone call hours before the stabbing. Thereza George said her daughter "did not seem like herself" in a phone conversation the day before the incident - and said there were clear signs that something was wrong in her relationship.
Appealing for help, she said: "After Brooke returned to Dubai for the second time, the dynamic between them had clearly changed. The day before the incident, she did not seem like herself. She was quieter and not her usual happy, cheerful self, but she did not tell me why.
"That evening they went to a bar in Dubai. When I spoke to Brooke right after the incident, she was absolutely terrified. I have never seen my daughter so frightened in my life. She was crying uncontrollably. I could see that one of her eyes was badly swollen and was beginning to close."
