Two dead after plane crashes into Essex field during 'flight experience' A plane that crashed into a field in the village of High Ongar, Essex, has left two people dead, with formal identification yet to take place, Essex Police have said Two people have tragically died after plane crashed into a field in Essex following a "short flight experience", police have said. Officers swarmed a field near the village of High Ongar and sealed it off after the small aircraft went down off Mill Lane at around 12.30pm on Tuesday. Det Ch Supt Morgan Cronin, of Essex Police, said at the time: "This is a serious incident and we understand it will cause concern in the local community." The two-seat Cessna plane took off from North Weald airfield around seven miles away, the force said. The two people on board, who have not been formally identified, both died. Det Ch Supt Morgan Cronin, from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, said: "Sadly, we can now confirm that two people who were on board died. "Formal identification is yet to take place. Due to the nature of the incident, this is likely to be a complex process and one we will approach sensitively and compassionately. Their families will be supported, and our thoughts are with them. "Our focus is to establish what happened and give their families the answers they need, while ensuring they are treated with dignity and respect. "The investigation has continued overnight with our detectives and forensic teams at the scene working in parallel with the Air Accidents Investigation Branch." The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) said it deployed a team of experts to an "accident involving a light aircraft" yesterday afternoon. "An accident in Ongar, Essex involving a light aircraft which occurred today (30 June) has been notified to the Air Accidents Investigation Branch," it said. "An investigation has been launched and a team of inspectors are on their way to the accident site." Detective Cronin said after the crash: "This is a serious incident, and we understand it will cause concern in the local community. "We are working closely with emergency service partners to respond and ensure the area is safe. "There will be a visible police presence as we deal with this incident." The force urged residents to avoid the Mill Lane area while work continued and thanked them for their patience and understanding. High Ongar is a picturesque village in the Epping Forest District of Essex. It is Located just a mile north-east of the market town of Chipping Ongar, and sits around 8 miles west of Chelmsford.
