Masked couple propose atop Empire State Building after terrifying climb A masked couple were seen climbing the the radio and television transmission tower on top of the Empire State Building in New York City before unfurling a banner and apparently agreeing to get married Two people have climbed to the top of the Empire State Building in New York City, before flying a huge banner, with one appearing to propose to the other afterwards. The pair, a man and a woman were seen climbing up the broadcast aerial on top of the iconic building this afternoon while both wearing masks. Upon reaching the very top of the antenna which sits atop the building, 443 meters (1,454 feet) above the New York streets, they unfurled a massive banner. The banner read: “When the power of love beats the love of power the world knows peace," CBS news reported. After the two managed to climb all the way to the top of the radio and television transmission tower for their stunt they started to climb back down again. Once they reached a lower platform the man dropped to one knee and appeared to propose to the woman. The pair embraced with the woman removing her mask as the couple shared a kiss. A police helicopter was called to the scene and the pair began to climb back down at around 12.35pm local time. The observation deck, below the mast and platform where the man proposed, was filled with people when the pair were first reported to be climbing the mast, but the deck was later cleared.
