Iron ore advanced — with futures briefly topping $100 a ton — after China’s state-backed buyer of the commodity signaled that it planned to restrict some Fortescue Ltd. inventories held at mainland ports.
Futures rose as much as 3.8% to $101.20 a ton in Singapore during the night-trading session, before paring gains on Thursday morning. China Mineral Resources Group Co. officials asked mills and traders holding Fortescue’s Super Special Fines to take deliveries before July 15, after which the furnace feedstock would be blacklisted, people with knowledge of the matter said.
