Novo Nordisk A/S’s biggest shareholder is investing in a new Italian startup accelerator, part of an effort to foster early stage life science companies across Europe.
Novo Holdings is contributing €5 million ($5.7 million) of an initial €25 million in funding, with the rest coming from regional development agency Lazio Innova, according to a statement. The Rome-based accelerator will be run by Copenhagen-based BioInnovation Institute, which has backed more than a hundred startups, including Embark Biotech, a company later purchased by the Danish maker of Ozempic.
