At least two people have been killed and more than 30 people are injured after a fire ripped through a hospital in Ludwigslust, northern Germany - forcing patients to evacuate
A major fire has broken out at a hospital in Germany, killing at least two people and forcing several patients to evacuate the building.
According to police, more than 30 people have been injured in the blaze, which erupted at the five-storey LUP Clinic this morning at around 4.30am local time.
Initial reports say the fire started in the roof of the radiology building, which was evacuated along with neighbouring buildings, while others say the blaze broke out in a patient's room.
The two fatalities were both patients at the facility, authorities said, according to Germany's dpa news agency.
Patients were this morning left sitting in front of the hospital in their hospital gowns, local outlet Nordkurier reports.
Others were reportedly wheeled out of the building in their hospital beds before emergency personnel transported them to safe areas.
The LUP Clinic is the only hospital located within the town of Ludwigslust.
The 160-bed facility at Neustädter Straße 1 is as an acute care hospital which provides basic and standard medical care in the region.
