Kate Middleton left 'mortified' after embarrassing Wimbledon moment in front of Tim Henman The Princess of Wales was involved in a very awkward moment at Wimbledon Kate Middleton was once left "mortified" by a comment her dad made to Tim Henman at Wimbledon. The Princess of Wales is known for being an avid tennis fan and a regular at the All England Club's Royal Box every year. But despite her effortless charm and class, she endured an awkward encounter at SW19, which she spoke about in the 2017 BBC documentary 'Our Wimbledon', hosted by Sue Barker. The Princess, who has been patron of the All England Club since 2016, recalled how her dad, Michael, had tried to stay cool when they crossed paths with Henman. But Michael made a huge gaffe by referring to the former British number one tennis player as "Pete" when greeting him, having just watched Pete Sampras play and mistaking the two icons. My dad said very coolly, 'Hi Pete'. I was mortified!" That incident hasn't put Kate off returning to SW19, having attended every tournament except the 2013 edition, when she was heavily pregnant, and the cancelled 2020 edition. In 2023, Kate attended the Wimbledon final with her two eldest children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. This week, the 44-year-old attended the fourth day of Wimbledon. The Princess, who recently finished the Three Peaks Challenge, opted not to sit in the Royal Box. Instead, she was spotted in the crowd on Court 18 sitting next to her friend Henman as they watched Arthur Fery take on Otto Virtanen. She wore a stylish outfit consisting of a blue blazer and matching trousers. Before that, Kate greeted fans who had queued for hours in the hope of getting a ticket to the tournament. She was met with applause and cheers as she entered the grounds and walked past Henman Hill.
