'I saved £20,000 moving back in with my mum to save for epic £30K World Cup adventure' Seb Reader, 28, has spent his life savings on the trip A bloke moved back in with his mum to stash away £30,000 so he could jet off to watch the World Cup. Seb Reader, 28, already had £10,000 tucked away, but amassed another £20,000 by returning to live with his mum and sister in January 2026. By only needing to chip in £350 towards household bills - and no longer forking out £1,300 monthly rent for his flat - he managed to squirrel away £950 per month from commission earned through his role as a business development manager. With no weekly food shop to worry about and other expenses trimmed, Seb succeeded in banking £2,000 monthly since January. Seb jetted off to America in June to catch England's opening match - and has witnessed every single one since. He's splashed out £9,300 on seven tickets for all the fixtures, including England's potential matches - though he's still to secure a ticket for the final. He'll remain in America for a full three months before jetting back on August 26 - shelling out £3,225 on flights and £7,500 on places to stay. Seb, from Wandsworth, London, explains: "I had a bit of a tough period in life which pushed me to make the steps needed to get the plan underway. "I also felt this year there's an unwavering supporting of England and I do think there's a good chance of us winning it and I'm under the impression the manager is really good and we're in with a chance to win it." "On top of that, I've always had a fascination with Americans and, to be honest, American culture and everything. I find them fascinating and very interesting so that's another reason I wanted to come out here. "It's sort of two birds with one stone. Essentially, I've spent my whole life savings for this trip which is £30,000." Seb attempted to purchase his tickets through the England Travellers Supporters Club and via the FIFA ballot but was unsuccessful. He eventually got hold of the tickets through a contact who works at a sports marketing agency. Jetting off to Chicago on 1 June for a week of solo exploration, Seb then headed to Nashville where he linked up with his mate Jack Banton, 28. He subsequently flew to Dallas on 12 June to watch England's opening fixture, then travelled to Boston for the Ghana match – before flying to New York on 25 June. He is yet to secure a ticket for the final. "It was a budget set for the trip of £30,000 and I'm right at the budget and final tickets are looking around £10,000 so I don't know," he said. "It's all extortionate anyway even with the tickets I've paid for were excruciatingly painful. But you never know, you've got to believe someone hears the story and I might get a final ticket. "Other than that what I'm thinking of doing instead is flying back to the UK, watching the final there with everyone as the atmosphere is insane and flying back to the US afterwards – it will still be cheaper." Seb has already racked up plenty of adventures beyond the England fixtures, embarking on a road trip through Nashville and exploring Memphis and Elvis' residence Graceland, alongside visiting the hot springs of Arkansas. He had a pint at a Dallas pub where he obtained a passport that received a stamp for every match he viewed there. "One of the other TikToks that did well was when I was in Chicago and I was speaking to quite a few different Americans about the World Cup and what shocked me was quite a few of them didn't even know it was on," he says. "It blew my mind that some people didn't know about a tournament of that size. The beers and stuff are so expensive. A fan park can be expensive, quite a big one is $21. It was free entry but clearly they put the free entry back on the drinks." Broadcasting his travel itinerary on social media, Seb says the feedback has been "supportive" and his girlfriend, with whom he is presently maintaining a long-distance relationship, will jet out to meet him and carry on their adventure following the World Cup.
