Harry Potter fans can apply for casting call as Ginny Weasley replacement sought Producers give July date for submissions and instructions as Ginny Weasley actress is leaving HBO show - how to apply Harry Potter fans are set to stampede to put themselves forward as the makers of the new HBO TV series has announced an ‘open casting’ for a key role. The series, titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone after J.K. Rowling’s original title for the first book in the fantasy series, is currently wrapping production on a first season on HBO, with a second season of the entertaining series already set to take place. However actress Gracie Cochrane, who portrayed Ginny Weasley in the first season, will not return for season two. Now the producers have issued a notice for an open casting - and any children who are aged 10-12 and are residents of the UK can apply. The deadline is July 17 and people are being asked to send in 2 videos. In the first HBO says: “Please prepare a short poem or story of your choosing. It can be from your favourite book, a poem that you love, a monologue from a play or something you’ve created yourself. Please, nothing from ‘Harry Potter’. Please use your own accent. 30 seconds maximum!” There’s also a second video they’re asking for: “Please record a short video telling us a bit about yourself, including your date of birth, height, and where you live. In addition, please describe any family member, friend, or pet that you are particularly close to. Please use your own accent. 30 seconds maximum!” In a statement, the actress and her family revealed that she was leaving the show due to undisclosed circumstances. “Due to unforeseen circumstances, Gracie has made the challenging decision to step away from her role as Ginny Wesley in the HBO Harry Potter series after season one,” the family said. “Her time as part of the Harry Potter world has been truly wonderful, and she is deeply grateful to Lucy Bevan and the entire production team for creating such an unforgettable experience. Gracie is very excited about the opportunities her future holds.” In their own statement, HBO shared its support of the young actress’s decision. “We support Gracie Cochrane and her family’s decision not to return for the next season of HBO’s Harry Potter series, and we are grateful for her work on season one of the show,” they said. “We wish Gracie and her family the best.” A new actress has yet to be announced as Cochrane’s replacement. Production on a second season of the show is expected to begin this autumn, with the first season of the show set to be released on Christmas Day. It will air on HBO and stream on HBO Max. The recasting comes after the show meticulously reviewed tens of thousands of submissions for child actors cast to bring the literary characters to life in the new series. The Ginny character holds a special place among them because of the relationship she later forms with Harry in the book series. In the original film adaptations, she was portrayed by Bonnie Wright. The other major child stars of the show include Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, Dominic McLaughlin as Harry, and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. The original film’s stars became massive stars after their roles. The film saw Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint star as the Harry, Ron, and Hermione trio.
