'I laughed so hard at sister's baby name that she banned me from baby shower' A woman has been uninvited from the baby shower she was planning – all because she couldn't stop laughing at her sister's alternative spelling of the baby name When it comes to choosing a baby name, some parents guard their child's chosen moniker until birth, while others are eager to tell family and friends straight away. However, one mum-to-be is now regretting revealing the name she is going to give to her baby - particularly after witnessing her sister's response. Writing on Reddit, the sister described how she couldn't help but laugh upon hearing the selected name, sparking such a dispute that she's now been banned from the baby shower she'd been organising. She said: "My sister is due in early January and we're planning her baby shower for early December. She decided she wanted to use my mother's maiden name (Rafferty) as her daughter's name. Not a Tragedeigh [tragic name] itself, and I guess it works as a unique name. "But yesterday I texted my sister saying I needed to order the personalised items with my niece's name as soon as possible so they'd arrive in time for the shower. My sister then told me they're going with an alternative spelling of Rafferty. "I texted back, 'An alternative spelling... of our mother's maiden name?' My sister wants to spell it Raefarty. So I sent back a bunch of laughing emojis and she asked, 'What's so funny?'". She attempted to point out that nearly everyone would mispronounce the name as something completely different from Rafferty - and worried her niece would endure constant mockery as a result. Yet her sister wouldn't hear it and maintained she was being "ridiculous". She added: "I texted back, 'My poor niece, Little Miss Farty Rae.' "I was uninvited from the shower and my mum told me today my sister doesn't want me to be the godmother anymore." Seeking to find out whether she'd gone too far, she turned to fellow Reddit users for their views. She asked: "But, like, Raefarty is really bad, isn't it? Someone needs to tell her, right?" In reply, one user commented: "Rafferty as a first name is bad enough. But Raefarty sounds like a parody musician who raps exclusively about fecal matter, whether solid, liquid, or gas." Another user said: "If it was a boy she wanted to use Legacy, but spelled Leygassy." A third user added: "Little Farty Rae is not going to be a ray of sunshine when she starts school... she's gonna be a fart ray of sadness. "Yes, you had to tell her. Also, just saying that being uninvited means you can cancel all the baby shower plans and save the money for little Rae's name change when she's 18."
