Paul Pelosi, the husband of Speaker Emerita and California Democrat Nancy Pelosi, could face hit-and-run charges in California after allegedly hitting a parked car and driving away Friday afternoon, according to reports.
The Napa County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release, first obtained by KTVU, that Pelosi, 86, was driving a brown convertible when it crashed into an unoccupied parked car in Yountville. Both cars sustained damage.
The incident did not appear to involve alcohol and has been referred to the Napa County District Attorney’s Office, according to the sheriff’s department.
Pelosi was not arrested.
The Independent has asked the Napa Valley Sheriff’s Office for comment.
Police first responded to reports of an alleged hit-and-run at the 6700 block of Yount Street around 2:30 p.m. Friday.
A witness who called 911 told authorities that “after crashing into the parked car, the driver briefly stopped then drove away, NBC News reported. The witness pointed Napa County Sheriff’s deputies in the direction of the vehicle that crashed into the parked car.
A short time later, deputies found the brown convertible partially blocking Yountville Cross Road, less than two miles from the incident location, with a California Highway Patrol vehicle parked behind it.
The vehicle had “significant damage” to the right front “consistent with the recent crash,” the Napa County Sheriff’s Office said in the press release. Pelosi was identified as the driver.
“Pelosi admitted to hitting something, but said he did not know what he had hit, so he kept driving,” the sheriff’s office said. “He drove until his car became disabled and was no longer able to continue driving.”
The sheriff’s office said a California DMV re-evaluation form was submitted, which is common for elderly drivers.
In 2022, Pelosi was charged with and pleaded guilty to DUI and causing injury in Napa Valley. He served five days in jail, paid $6,800 in fines and restitution and was asked to complete a DUI program.
That same year, Paul Pelosi became headline news after an intruder broke into the Pelosis’ San Francisco home and attacked the then-82-year-old with a hammer. Pelosi underwent surgery for two skull fractures as a result of the attack.
