A 700-year-old school, an airline and several more companies have entered administration as rising costs and financial pressures continue to take their toll on businesses across the country.
In recent weeks, a number of UK-based businesses have been forced to call in administrators in a bid to save some or all of their operations. Among the most recent ones are a 700 year old school, an airline and an insurance company — just some of the firms to have announced they are taking this step.
Sadly, this has become an all-too-familiar story in 2026, with thousands of businesses falling into administration this year alone. Soaring gas and electricity bills, mounting debt and dwindling footfall are among the key reasons why companies may be pushed down this path.
Here's a round-up of the latest administration news you need to know.
Ruthin School
One of the UK's oldest schools has announced its shocking closure and is set to enter financial administration. Founded in 1284 in North Wales, the institution was acquired by Chinese-owned Galaxy Global Education Group in 2023,
The school, which also operates as a boarding school, will not be opening its doors to pupils after the summer. It is believed that more than 100 members of staff face redundancy, while parents of around 240 pupils have been left scrambling to find a new school for their children.
The school was recently crowned the top independent school in North Wales in The Sunday Times Parent Power Guide 2026, and was also ranked amongst the UK's leading boarding schools in league tables compiled by the Independent Schools Council.
Eastern Airlines
Based in North Lincolnshire, Eastern Airlines — which had been trading for 25 years — went into administration last year. A rescue deal had been on the table, but it has now been confirmed that the regional carrier could not be saved.
The airline previously operated routes across the UK, Ireland, and Europe. At its peak, it ran 200 flights a day and employed around 330 staff members, the vast majority of whom have now lost their jobs.
Just 16 employees remain and are expected to stay on until the administration process is finished.
G2 Housing Group Ltd
This construction firm has entered administration after operating since 2014. The private limited company has worked in building development and management consulting for 12 years.
Based in Hampshire, the company had a strong focus on sustainable construction. It was registered as a member of the UN-backed One Planet Network, with a dedicated Director of Sustainability and Wellbeing.
RPA1 Ltd
A social housing company has gone into administration after encountering serious financial difficulties. RPA1 Limited stated that it had been unable to meet its financial obligations, resulting in the appointment of joint administrators.
The firm acquires newly built affordable homes from developers before leasing them to registered social housing providers.
The administrators have said they intend to keep operations running as normal for residents living in properties linked to the company throughout the administration process.
W. I. S. E. Underwriting Agency Ltd
This insurer has also collapsed into administration after trading since 1997. Based in the City of London, the firm boasted a "deep understanding" of marine cargo insurance, providing cover for risks, loss or damage and specie insurance, which is designed to protect high-value assets.
A statement on the W. I. S. E. website confirms the firm has "ceased all trading and regulated activity".
Senior Glass Systems
This sealed glass manufacturer, based in Scarborough, has also fallen into administration. According to a statement from the administrators, the business struggled with cashflow difficulties due to mounting costs and considerable downward pressure on prices.
All 27 members of staff have been made redundant, with administrators now working to ensure workers can claim and access the full entitlements owed to them.
