She was in cardiac arrest when police reached the scene. They practiced CPR on her to try to revive her before paramedics took over when they arrived minutes later. The woman was tragically pronounced dead soon after arrival at Punta Europa Hospital. Police have confirmed her husband passed a drink-drive test. An investigation into the incident, which happened in a neighbourhood of Algeciras called San Garcia, was ongoing today. City mayor Jose Ignacio Landaluce said he was "deeply dismayed" at what had happened and officials were supporting the woman's family." He added: "We stand with them in their grief." Algeciras has one of the most important Moroccan communities in Spain. Around 10.000 of its 128,000 inhabitants come from Morocco. A police source told a local paper at the time: "Various witnesses saw him fall to the ground and realised he had the flag around his neck. The investigation is ongoing but the initial hypothesis is that he died from asphyxiation."
