Arthur Fery will take on Flavio Cobolli in the last eight at Wimbledon on Wednesday - but the French Open finalists is desperately seeking somewhere to stay after an accommodation blunder
Arthur Fery is the last remaining British hope in the men's singles at Wimbledon and his opponent Flavio Cobolli has again found himself scrabbling for accommodation.
The Italian booked another quarter-final spot at SW19 with victory over Alex De Minaur and then revealed his father must ensure they have a place to stay for the duration when they head back next year.
Cobolli secured victory on Court One and, having been a popular figure on Court One, will become the villain when he takes on Fery in front of his home fans later this week.
But his immediate issue is finding somewhere to put his head down - which was an issue 12 months ago. He was forced to scramble around for a new place to stay on day eight of the tournament following victory over Marin Cilic.
Cobolli was quizzed on whether his father needs to be more prepared with their accommodation plans and said: “Last year I had problems. This year I have problems. I hope that my dad find the right solution for the next one.
“My grandfather help us to find a solution for tonight, but we found solution for all the week, I hope. An Italian family give us all the house here in Wimbledon, so it’s really cool. I will say thanks to them when I see them.”
Cobolli headed to Wimbledon off the back of reaching the French Open final, the biggest success of his career to date. He downed Felix Auger-Aliassime in the last eight before losing to Alexander Zverev in five sets in the final.
Fery, ranked 114th in the world, defeated Grigor Dimitrov in an epic five-set encounter to reach the quarter-finals. He has become just the sixth British man in the open era to reach the quarter-finals at Wimbledon - and finds himself on the opposite side of the draw to Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic.
He said after beating Dimitrov: “It’s been the story of the tournament for me, I was really close to losing my last round as well, again today a break down in the fourth, tried to keep fighting, keeping a good attitude, committing to what I’m trying to do, with my back against the wall, it paid off today.
“I couldn’t have imagined it, a week ago I would have been happy to win a few matches here. Now winning four matches, being in the quarters, it’s a dream.”
