EXCLUSIVE: Two friends were left in stitches after ordering £4.50 cheesy chips at a Wetherspoons pub in Nottingham - only to be handed something "deconstructed"
Two friends were left mortified after ordering a Wetherspoons favourite - but what arrived at their table was not what they were expecting.
Joe Bull and his 24-year-old pal Johnny had headed to The Woodthorpe Top JD Wetherspoon Mapperley, Nottingham, on June 29 for a bite to eat.
Johnny ordered what he believed was a portion of cheesy chips through the Wetherspoons app for £4.50, anticipating a helping of hot chips smothered in melted cheese.
But the duo were left in stitches when they were presented with a "deconstructed" order of two slices of cold cheese on one of the chain's blue and white plates alongside a bowl of "cold" chips.
The studio engineer said he expected the cheese to be on top of the chips at the very least, but admitted they were "a bit cold" so the cheese wouldn't have melted anyway.
Hilarious footage shows Johnny laughing at his bowl of plain chips served with a separate plate of sliced American cheese, exclaiming: "Are you f**kin' having me on?"
As the pair continue to cackle at the order, Johnny slams the cheese slices on top of his chips.
Johnny said he found the order so amusing that he posted a video of their meal on social media, where users were quick to brand the Wetherspoons dish "criminal" and "diabolical".
But despite the order "mess up", Joe says he'll keep visiting Wetherspoons as it's a "cheap" place to eat and drink.
Joe, from Nottingham, explained: "It was my friend that ordered it on his phone, he just ordered the plain cheesy chips. The chips were a bit cold and it's not what you expect them to look like [the cheesy chips].
"We were all laughing and this is why I got my phone out as I thought it would be something funny to see on TikTok, it's just daft and stupid.
"When you think of cheesy chips, you'd expect it to be hot chips with melted cheese on. Even at the very least, you'd expect the cheese to be on top of the chips.
"A separate plate was brought out with the cheese on, it's just not what you expect."
Joe said they complained to a staff member, only to be informed they'd selected "the wrong type of cheese" if they wanted it melted over their chips.
Joe continued: "We went to the bar and said it wasn't cheesy chips. The woman tried to claim that on the Wetherspoons App you can either choose American cheese or another cheese.
"If you pick American cheese they don't put it on there apparently. So, she said it was our choice [of cheese] that made the chef put it on a separate plate.
"I would never order cheesy chips myself but nothing would put me off going to Wetherspoons in this day and age.
"With the prices with everything in the world, even if they do make a little f*ck up with one of your orders, Wetherspoons is always going to be a cheap, fun place."
After sharing the video on TikTok, Joe's post racked up more than 184,000 views and 13,000 likes, with many agreeing with him.
One person commented: "That's criminal." Another remarked: "Nah, imagine paying five quid for DIY cheesy chips."
A third observed: "Deconstructed cheesy chips for artistic flair." A fourth chimed in: "That's diabolical."
However, others backed Wetherspoons, claiming the lads had simply selected the wrong thing from the menu.
One responded: "You've ordered a side of chips and a side of American burger cheese to try to save 20p."
A second noted: "You've ordered chips and American cheese slices separately and then moaned about it."
Wetherspoons has declined to comment.
