The family of a man who died two years after being assaulted on a night out have paid tribute to him – with officers now launching a murder investigation. Ramon Logan had been out watching the Euros final on 14 July 2024 at a local rugby club before heading into Oldham for a night out. Just hours later, he was rushed to hospital in a critical condition after falling victim to a savage attack in the early hours of the following morning. After two years fighting for his life, the father-of-four tragically passed away aged 42 on 30 June. His wife Charlotte shared a heartfelt statement on social media revealing that Ramon, also affectionately known as Ray, had 'fought so hard' and is now 'at peace' following his harrowing ordeal. Ramon endured a lengthy hospital stay due to serious and life-altering injuries sustained during the attack. His attacker, Sebastian Jones, was subsequently jailed, reports the Manchester Evening News. A court heard how he launched the unprovoked assault at around 4am. CCTV footage captured Jones leaving a nightclub before approaching Ramon and striking him. The sheer force of the blow sent the dad crashing to the ground, where Jones continued to attack him as he lay completely defenceless. Horrified bystanders desperately intervened and alerted police, who arrived at the scene on Yorkshire Street to find Ramon on the ground with severe head injuries. Devastatingly, he never made a full recovery. Jones evaded capture for a week before being arrested in Bury and charged with S18 assault. Following a three-day trial, Jones, of Dickens Street in Oldham, was found guilty and handed a seven-year prison sentence. Following Jones's eventual imprisonment for the assault, Detective Superintendent Walker from GMP's Oldham district commented: "The level of violence displayed by Jones was completely unacceptable and cowardly. The victim was defenceless on the ground, and Jones carried out a sustained attack, causing significant injuries which have left a lasting impact on the victim and his family. Ray never stopped fighting to get better". Two years later, it was confirmed that Ramon had tragically passed away. Greater Manchester Police detectives have now opened a murder investigation. A Home Office post-mortem examination has been completed and additional reviews are underway to establish the cause of death. In a statement, Charlotte said: "It is with a broken heart I announce the passing of my beautiful husband, Ray Logan, on June 30. Ray was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend to many, and will be missed immensely by everyone who knew him. "Ray was a part of so many people's lives, and as much as we all have our existing memories to remember him by, it is heart-breaking that we won't get to make any new ones. Ray never stopped fighting to get better for the last two years, all we can wish for now is that he gets the justice he deserves." In another devastating message posted online, Dale Lowe expressed: "I can't believe I'm writing this. I'm heartbroken. For the last two years, you fought so hard for a different outcome. No matter how many setbacks you faced, no matter how many times it felt like you were back to square one, you never stopped fighting right until the very end. "Thank you for the memories, and thank you for being a true friend. It's weird, but I feel like I've been grieving you for the last two years. There have been so many times I've wanted to pick up the phone to you, ask for advice, have a laugh, or just talk about life. Through it all, I always held onto that little bit of hope that one day we'd get that back." Jodie Chadwick wrote on social media: "I have never witnessed strength like it the fight you gave! ! But you are finally free from all suffering. We honestly cant believe your gone." No arrests have been made though officers are pressing ahead with their enquiries. Detective Inspector Andy Day, from GMP's Oldham district, commented: "We know how difficult and painful the last two years have been for Ramon's family, and we are continuing to support them following his death last week. "We have now launched a murder investigation, and are keeping his family updated as we progress our enquiries. We are assessing all available material and will be making further reviews in due course."
