NATO Black Sea allies to expand mine force to protect infrastructure
Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey agreed on Wednesday during a NATO summit to expand a joint task force that clears mines floating in the Black Sea to include missions to protect critical infrastructure including energy, telecoms and undersea pipelines, Bucharest's defence ministry said.
The three NATO states, which share the Black Sea with Georgia, Russia and Ukraine, formed the de-mining task force in 2024 to counter the threat of floating mines after Moscow's invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Since then, it has neutralised more than 150 mines floating in the Black Sea across crucial trade lanes, with Turkey handling the bulk of them.
Spain PM says Trump threat to cut trade is 'business as usual'
The office of Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has said it is treating Trump’s threat to cut trade ties with Spain as “business as usual”.
“Our country enjoys excellent social, cultural and economic relations with the US it is not our intention for that to change,” it added in a statement.
Trump says Greenland is a 'big problem'
Trump has said NATO's stance on Greenland is a "big problem" after allies showed resistance to his position that it should belong to the United States and not Denmark.
"Greenland is a big problem for us," he told reporters at the opening of a key NATO summit in Ankara, saying it was "very important for the United States, but it's not important for Denmark".
"We need it for protection of the world, not just the United States.. It doesn't help Denmark, but it helps us."

Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen on Wednesday rejected renewed demands by President Donald Trump that the US should take control of Greenland from NATO ally Denmark, saying that “Greenland is of course not for sale”.
“We hope that all, including all allies, will respect the Greenland people right for self-determination,” Frederiksen said ahead of a meeting of the leaders of NATO member countries in Turkey. “And we are sovereign states and we need everybody to respect our territorial integrity and our sovereignty.”

Poland's president will try to ensure that NATO's pipeline network is extended to the alliance's eastern flank, he said on Wednesday.

Ukrainian drones kill one person, damage two empty oil tankers, Russia says
Ukraine's overnight drone attacks on Russia killed one person and damaged numerous industrial sites and two empty oil tankers, local authorities said on Wednesday.
The governor of Russia's Saratov region, Roman Busargin, said on Telegram channel that one person was killed, civilian industrial sites were damaged and several people were injured in a Ukrainian drone attack.
Yury Slyusar, the governor of the southern Rostov region, said on Telegram that two tankers were damaged in the Taganrog Bay of the Sea of Azov. He said the vessels, which were en route to Rostov-on-Don, were empty.
Ukrainian drones attacked a dozen tankers from Russia's "shadow fleet" that were delivering fuel to Crimea over the past several days, according to the Ukrainian military.
Russia launches third air attack on Kyiv in a week
Russia fired ballistic missiles at Kyiv again overnight, officials said on Wednesday, a third attack on the Ukrainian capital in less than a week exploiting Ukraine's critical shortage of US-made air-defence interceptors.
The new attack comes as the NATO summit is underway in Ankara, where US President Donald Trump is due to hold talks with Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky.

"I was very disappointed with NATO," Trump repeated, setting the tone for the summit's main gathering where the alliance's 31 other leaders will come face-to-face with the mercurial US leader when the main session opens at 08:15 GMT.
