Loud blasts could reportedly be heard coming from near Malton Hospital at around midday and a cordon has been put in place by the police. Fire crews are working at the scene with smoke seen from as far away as Market Weighton. Malton Town Council says there is "some ash and debris falling from the sky", as it urged people to "please be vigilant if you are in the area". Key Events York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust said in a statement: "All patients and colleagues have been safely evacuated, and there are no reports of any injuries. "We are working closely with North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and other partner agencies to monitor the situation." A statement from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service reads: "Update at 12:46 3 main jets are in use and our Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP) is in attendance. "We’re currently responding to an incident involving a building on the Malton and Norton District Hospital site. A number of fire crews are on the scene. "Hospital staff have confirmed all people are accounted for. Residents and anyone nearby may notice large amounts of smoke. As a precaution, please keep all doors and windows closed. "Please avoid the area at this time to allow emergency services access."
