World Cup LIVE: England vs Norway fears as Jordan Henderson releases new statement Norway's jet setting across North America might be catching up with them following reports the squad have been hit by an illness just days before they face England Jordan Henderson has issued a new health update after his freak World Cup injury. Henderson had surgery on his wrist, which he injured after losing his grip while trying to vault an advertising board. He uploaded a picture with the doctors who treated him, with his heavily casted arm front and centre of the picture. While he is posing for pictures, England's quarter final opponents, Norway, have been hit by an illness ahead of their high-stakes clash. Fatigue and illness have disrupted the nation's preparations as they aim to continue their impressive run in the competition. Norway fired their way into the quarter finals following a confident win against Brazil. Manchester City striker Erling Haaland hammered two goals into the back of the net, but there has been a suggestion the jet setting around North America has taken its toll on the squad, according to Norwegian outlet Dagbladet. The team is recovering from bouts of illness as they continue to navigate the competition. It is not the only dramatic event to hit the World Cup in recent days. Egypt star Mostafa Ziko sensationally claimed Argentina's stunning 3-2 win over the Pharaohs was rigged in the latest World Cup drama as FIFA quietly issued two new bans. The reigning world champions were little more than 10 minutes away from being dumped out of the tournament, having gone two goals behind in Atlanta, Georgia. But in one of the most stunning comebacks in World Cup history, Argentina scored three goals to keep their dream of retaining the title alive. The game was not without controversy, however. Egypt were furious when a goal was ruled out by VAR following an apparent foul on Nicolas Tagliafico, while they were also left outraged by the decision not to award a penalty in the moments before Argentina's winning goal. Ziko, who hammered home Egypt's second goal, did not pull any punches with his assessment. He said: "It was a rigged game. It wasn’t our fault. That referee… it seems like this match was rigged. We were winning 2-0, and he kept coming at us. Congratulations to Argentina on another World Cup, it seems." The quarter finals are set to begin tomorrow when France takes on Morocco at 9pm at Boston Stadium. France are considered to be the favourites with Kylian Mbappe seeking to leap frog Lionel Messi in the race for the golden boot. Here, Mirror Football provides the latest updates on everything that happens at the World Cup today... Key Events Sir Alf Ramsey was so calm, he famously told his staff to calm down after Sir Geoff Hurst's fourth goal for England in the World Cup final. However, a story of Sir Ramsey having a blazing row with the iconic Billy Wright has been detailed. It involved Wright, Sir Ramsey and a non-league manager named Charlie Phillips. The latter introduced Ramsey to the mysterious world of freemasonry. Details of this row was revealed by Graham Phillips, the son of Charlie. Speaking to Mirror Football, he said: “That the true story of what happened behind the scenes, on the pitch and in the dressing room at the Hungary game in 1953 was significantly different to what was reported at the time, and subsequently, and involved a final break between Alf and Wright.” It's claimed Wright was given specific instructions during England's 6-3 loss to Hungari in 1953, bit ignored them, leading to a horrendous row between the two. Graham added: "After the game Wright stood up, went over to manager Walter Winterbottom, put his arm around his shoulder and said: ‘Never mind, if you had picked a different team perhaps things would have been better’. "Ramsey heard this and was furious on two counts. Firstly that Wright had broken a confidence on the team selection issue and secondly that he was absolving himself of any responsibility for the performance. "Ramsey in as measured tones as he could manage, blamed Wright at some length for undermining the strategy that they had been asked to play. Not once but twice. Once that had let to the first goal and secondly after the team had played so well within the strategic plan to get the equaliser. This time it was personal and Wright knew it. "Ramsey was standing with his back to the dressing room door as he was speaking standing two or three feet away from Wright and Winterbottom. "Shortly after he began to speak he noticed that both men were not making eye contact but were looking behind him. He turned round to see that two men and suits had entered the dressing room while he had been speaking." TO READ THE FULL STORY CLICK HERE Jordan Henderson has uploaded a picture of himself with the hospital stuff who worked with him. The England international broke his wrist in a freak incident after the Three Lions beat Mexico. He tried to vault an advertising boarding, only for his hand to slip as he jumped, causing him to fall on top of his wrist. The Brentford ace required wrist surgery after the distressing incident. Henderson wrote: Surgery done! Let's get ready for the big one Saturday. Thank you to all the staff that looked after me at Kansas city orthopaedic institute. Especially the three surgeons who carried out the operation. Dr. Kenneth P. Unruh, Dr. Mark J Winston, Dr. Kirk McCullough." Thomas Tuchel is already without Jarell Quansah and Jordan Henderson for England's quarter-final clash against Norway. However, he also has many players who are at risk of a suspension, if they pick up another yellow card. They are: Jude Bellingham Nico O'Reilly Declan Rice Marc Guehi England v Norway in a World Cup quarter-final is serious business. As is the task set for England's defence - stopping Norway's deadly striker Erling Haaland. Here's some Haaland stats: - Haaland has seven goals in his debut World Cup - Four of those goals have been match-winning strikes - He is averaging a goal every 14 touches this tournament - Haaland has scored his seven goals from just 18 shots - a 39 per cent conversion record - Haaland has scored 62 goals in 54 senior internationals - averaging a goal every 71 minutes. Only six of those were penalties - He has now scored in each of his past 14 competitive appearances for Norway, claiming 27 goals in that run. So, how scared are you of the big man? Manchester United are ready to reignite their interest in Borussia Dortmund full-back Julian Ryerson - whose performances at the World Cup have put him back on their radar. The Norwegian has been a key figure in their run to the last eight, where they will now face England. That comes after an impressive season with Dortmund, who don't want to lose him and are keen to discuss a new deal. Despite that Bild understands that the Bundesliga outfit would consider his sale if they received a bid in the region of €30million (£25.6m) for a player who provided 15 assists last season with initial talks taking place. His combination of pace and strength in one-on-one situations are seen as perfect for the Premier League with United also looking to prepare themselves for a far busier season following a return to the Champions League. United have big plans this summer and are committed to bolstering several areas of their squad. Midfield is their priority but, if they have sufficient budget, they would also seek to add another attacker and a full-back - with Ryerson ticking the final box. Michael Carrick currently has the likes of Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw as regulars in those areas, but more quality and depth is being sought. Dortmund have ultimately shown themselves to be a selling club if they receive the right fee for their players. READ MORE: Man Utd hold talks with £25.6m World Cup hero as transfer plans take shape Every striker dreams of cementing their name in World Cup history, but only a select few have gotten into the double digits across multiple competitions. It should be no surprise that Lionel Messi leads the charge with 21 goals in 31 games. Perhaps equally impressive is Kylian Mbappe, who slotted away 19 in as many games with, persumably, many more years left to catch the Argentine. Germany's Miroslav Klose has an impressive 16 out of 24 games and Brazil's Ronaldo scored 15 in 19 World Cup appearances. Meanwhile, Harry Kane shares 14 goals scored with Gerd Muller, though he managed to do so over 16 games compared to the German's 13. Carlo Ancelotti's Brazil squad rejected the chance to travel home as a team after their World Cup elimination at the hands of Norway. Sunday proved a bitter pill to swallow for the five-time winners, as they crashed out of the tournament in North America after a surprise 2-1 defeat to Norway. In a fiercely fought encounter, Erling Haaland broke the deadlock for his country with just over 10 minutes left on the clock. The Manchester City striker then put the result beyond doubt with his second goal at the 90-minute mark. Neymar later managed to convert from the penalty spot in stoppage time. However, his effort amounted to nothing more than a consolation for the South American giants. Consequently, Norway will now lock horns with England in the quarter-finals, scheduled for 10pm on Saturday, at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium. Meanwhile, Brazil's agonising 24-year wait for World Cup glory goes on, with Ancelotti now facing questions about his future amid reports linking Pep Guardiola to the job. While numerous sides have chosen to return home after their tournament exits, Ancelotti's players instead went their separate ways and rejected the chance to fly home together. Three Lions received huge plaudits following their win over Mexico, which has been hailed as one of the greatest tournament wins ever. Despite taking on the co-hosts in their Azteca Stadium stronghold Thomas Tuchel's side were able to overcome the home side, the altitude and being down a man. England were deservedly given two days off after their exploits in the Azteca and have been enjoying some downtime. Tuchel has said: “Norway pose a different threat, some that we know really well, some world-class players in there, so we will have to be ready. Harry Kane scored from the spot against Mexico to put him on seven for the tournament, but after wild scenes of celebration he confessed that the squad needed to come back down emotionally before facing Norway. "The connection with everyone is even stronger now and we feel that more than ever. We recover now, we calm down, we have a couple of days relaxing and then obviously get prepared for a massive quarter-final." READ MORE: Inside England World Cup camp as Three Lions heroes enjoy well-deserved break Zlatko Dalić is the latest coach to step down after failing to deliver at the World Cup. Croatia are looking for a new head coach after Dalić left after almost ten years in the job. He quit after nine years in charge, the Croatian Football Federation said on Wednesday. It comes after the nation lost 2-1 loss to Portugal in the Round of 32. Under his tenure, Croatia finished runners-up at the 2018 World Cup and third in the Qatar in 2022. “Following nearly nine years, head coach Zlatko Dalic has decided to close his incredibly successful chapter with Croatia,” the federation said. “Head coach, thank you for everything – the victories, the achievements, the qualifying berths, the medals, the unity, the respect, and your unwavering commitment to fight for Croatia, both on and off the pitch.” World Cup 2026 is reaching its climax. But fans will be disappointed after the round of 16 concludes that there are no games on Wednesday. This mid-week blank day on July 8 provides a brief pause in the tournament before the next stage begins. The designated rest day gives the surviving squads essential time to recover from intense knockout matches ahead of the upcoming quarter-final ties. The quarter-final match between England and Norway is set for Saturday, July 11. The game will begin at 10pm UK time. READ MORE: Why are there no matches at the World Cup today? FIFA schedule explained Ed Sheeran has been helping England’s players unwind as the countdown to the quarter-final continues. The singing star was invited to play a secret gig for the Three Lions at their World Cup base in Kansas. A visit from Shape Of You hitmaker Ed, who is close with a number of the squad, helped the team relax following their impressive victory over Mexico at the Azteca. The chart topper has been in the States on tour as well as being a guest at pal Taylor Swift's wedding to Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce and was quick to say yes after the FA’s call. England players kicked back in the swimming pool as they battled the 36c heat at their Kansas base. The Three Lions are still recovering from Monday's energy-sapping win at altitude in Mexico and cooled off before preparations for Norway really begin. Players hit the diving board with team-bonding sessions in the pool as they helped their recovery ahead of Saturday's huge quarter-final. The race for the golden boot is hotting up as we enter the quarter final stage of the 2026 World Cup. Argentina's Lionel Messi leads the charge to win the golden boot with an impressive eight goals so far in the competition. But he faces determined challenges from Norway's Erling Haaland and France's Kylian Mbappe, both on seven. England's Harry Kane is not out yet though with a solid six under his belt after five games. Football fans have accused FIFA of 'rigging' the World Cup after it was announced France's clash against Morocco will feature an all-Argentinian officiating team. Didier Deschamps' side face off against the AFCON champions on Thursday with a place in the semi-finals up for grabs. The governing body announced the refereeing team for the last-eight match with each of the five match officials hailing from Argentina. The reigning world champions, who beat France in the final four years ago, confirmed their place in the quarter-finals on Wednesday after coming back from 2-0 down to defeat Egypt 3-2 in a stunning comeback. Facundo Tello is set to referee the fixture, with Juan Pablo Belatti and Gabriel Chade as his assistants. Meanwhile Dario Herrera will act as fourth official with Cristian Navarro the reserve assistant referee. The Lionel Messi-led nation has quite the history with France, having defeated Les Blues in the World Cup final in 2022 via penalties. READ MORE: Fresh World Cup fix claims as FIFA make referee announcement A leading domestic abuse charity warns that cases of violence between couples or family members almost double during big World Cup matches. Women’s Aid say there are some very uncomfortable statistics when it comes to England matches with incidents increasing by more than 38 per cent when the nation loses. Emily Beven, a Senior Associate at Stowe Family Law, says: “It’s important to understand first and foremost that domestic abuse is not caused by the World Cup, or by England losing a game. Domestic abuse is caused by a perpetrator choosing to exert control over a victim, and this can manifest in any number of ways, from physical violence, to gaslighting, coercive control, financial abuse and far more. “However, the fact that cases of domestic abuse increase by 38 per cent when England plays and loses a game compared to days when they do not play, highlights how heightened emotions can impact the experiences of victims and at times cause further risk of harm. “It takes an average of 7 attempts for a victim of domestic abuse to leave a perpetrator. It is not an easy step to take, and the threat of post-separation abuse can easily prevent survivors from seeking support. It’s hugely important to know that there is support out there. “A football tournament is never an excuse for abusive behaviour. But it may provide an opportunity to raise awareness about the support that is available to survivors.” The wall-to-wall football is at an end as the World Cup pauses today for the first time since the tournament kicked-off nearly a month ago. With the round of 16 now concluded, there are no matches scheduled on Wednesday, before things get very serious on Thursday. The opening quarter-final will be contested by France and Morocco. This knockout fixture will be played at Boston Stadium in Massachusetts at 9pm UK time. The tie are daily, and on Friday it’s Spain v Belgium - kicking off at 8pm. Of course England face Norway on Saturday night, that gets underway at 10pm our time, before the final last eight match between Argentina and Switzerland, with a 2am start. Norway's team doctor has been "very busy" dealing with a sickness bug in their camp, goalkeeper Orjan Nyland says. It emerged earlier this week that illness has rocked the team during their preparations for the game with England this weekend, sparking fears elsewhere that Norway could be below strength for the quarter-final. Norway's team doctor has played down the situation, saying that "all players are healthy now". But their goalkeeper has confirmed that the sickness bug has impacted the players. He told James Corden: "I can confirm that it's true, we've had our issues, we're doing the best we can and the team doctor is very busy at the moment. "I have no idea what the source was, we did have some time off so maybe someone contracted something." Egypt will submit an official protest to FIFA following the performance of referee Francois Letexier during their World Cup quarter-final loss to Argentina. The Africans were sent packing by the world champions in dramatic style as Lionel Messi and co scored three times in the final 15 minutes to overturn a two-goal deficit. Egypt's hopes of a major upset were ended by Enzo Fernandez's late header, but the team felt that the referee played an integral part in their loss with two major decisions going against them. As a result Egyptian Football Association president Hany Abo Rida has submitted a formal complaint, reports Diario AS. Egypt saw a second goal ruled out after VAR intervened, citing a foul at the other end of the pitch before they went and scored. Crucially a similar foul was then ignored by the officials, despite it taking place in the build-up to Argentina's winner. READ MORE: Egypt ‘file FIFA complaint’ and want officials kicked OUT of World Cup after Argentina loss Argentina have had two of their oppenents' goals overturned this tournament. The first was against Algeria when Fares Chaibi was ruled as being offside when he scored. Only Portugal has matched Argentina's VAR blessing this World Cup. England's World Cup opponents, Norway, have been hit by sickness ahead of the quarter-final clash against the Three Lions. Fatigue and illness have disrupted the nation's preparations as they aim to continue their unprecedented journey in the competition. Norway earned their spot to face England with a confident win over Brazil. Erling Haaland scored twice to fire his team into the last eight in North America. Having travelled thousands of miles throughout the tournament, there is a suggestion that the jetsetting has taken its toll on the squad, per Norwegian outlet Dagbladet. The team has already been hit by bouts of illness as they navigated the competition. And some of it has been put down to the relentless travelling. Based in Greensboro, North Carolina, the Norwegians have gone back and forth to Boston, New Jersey and Dallas. READ MORE: England's opponents Norway rocked by sickness with huge concern before World Cup clash Switzerland have squeaked into the quarter finals after a tense penalty shootout against Colombia. Following an uneventful 90 minutes where both sides failed to score a goal, taking it all the way to penalties. Colombia's lack of a real threat up top came back to punish them as they lost 4-3 in the shootout. Switzerland will now face Lionel Messi's in the quarter finals, hoping they will be the side to end Argentina's mission to win back-to-back World Cups. Jordan Henderson's dad says the England midfielder has 'completely smashed' his forearm during the freak, horror injury in the wake of their 3-2 win over Mexico. The 36-year-old was stretchered off and needed oxygen after the celebrations after falling over the advertising hoardings overshadowing a famous World Cup win at the Azteca Stadium. Henderson, an unused substitute, was left stricken following the joyous celebrations with the travelling Three Lions after Jude Bellingham's double and a Harry Kane penalty booked their place in the quarter-finals. The former Liverpool captain remained in Mexico City, while his teammates returned to base in Kansas City, where he underwent surgery. The 36-year-old's dad, Brian, has revealed that he will remain in the United States for England's quest to the final on July 19 as they face Norway on Saturday for a place in the semi-final. Henderson Sr. told Mail Online: "It's his left forearm - he's just completely smashed it. "He's going to have a cast on and then it depends on what the experts say. He won't be leaving his team-mates. He'll be there until it's finished." Though the news was largely overshadowed by the furore surrounding Folarin Balogun. The USA crashed out of the World Cup on Monday after a crushing loss to Belgium, with Balogun controversially permitted to take to the pitch. Belgium cruised to victory regardless, and took a dig at Donald Trump that carried on into the dressing room, as new post-match footage revealed. The crushing defeat was also witnessed by a record television audience, after FOX Sports confirmed it was the most-watched football broadcast in US history. Among the 30 million viewers tuning in were two US football officials, who had been suspended following the Round of 32 win over Bosnia & Herzegovina. These are the quarter-final kick-off times. France v Morocco - 9pm on Thursday, July 9 Spain v Belgium - 8am on Friday, July 10 Norway v England - 10pm on Saturday, July 11 Argentina v Switzerland - 2am on Sunday, July 12 Egypt star Mostafa Ziko has claimed that his nation's clash with Argentina was rigged, with the South American side lined up to win the tournament. The reigning world champions looked set to be heading out, having gone 2-0 behind in Atlanta. But they scored three unanswered goals late on to keep their dream of winning back-to-back World Cups alive. The game was blighted by controversy however. Egypt had a goal ruled out by VAR after an apparent foul on Nicolas Tagliafico earlier in the move, while they were also left furious by the decision not to award a penalty just moments before Argentina’s winning goal. Ziko, who scored his nation’s second goal, did not pull any punches with his assessment of the officials and claimed the game and the tournament are rigged in Argentina’s favour. He said: “The referee wasn’t good, he was unfair. His injustice was clear. He persecuted us from the start of the match. He doesn’t want us to win. “It was a rigged game. It wasn’t our fault. That referee… it seems like this match was rigged. We were winning 2-0, and he kept coming at us.
