Biohacker Connor Murphy who shot to fame for his online fitness content was allegedly 'injecting gold' before his tragic death
An online fitness influencer and 'looksmaxxer' who drowned earlier this month was allegedly injecting liquid gold in the belief it would give him superpowers.
Connor Michael Murphy sadly died on July 8 following an incident at a luxury rental home in Banh Phil, Thailand. Police swarmed the address in the early hours to reports of 'screaming' from the address.
The force said when they found him, he was "behaving erratically" and running a naked rampage.
According to Thai authorities, Connor entered the lake in a bid to flee officers when the tragedy struck.
In the weeks before his death, the 32-year-old was working on a documentary and has started to shift his online bodybuilding content to focus on spirituality and religion.
According to pals, he was also an eager biohacker and believed in the mystical powers of gold. A YouTuber by the name of Androgenic claimed Connor had a "fixation on gold" and he "started to believe that gold was some gatekept mineral by the higher-ups that basically gives you special powers if you ingest it."
After reading a debunked study that claimed ingesting gold increased IQ, Connor reportedly told friends he planned to carry out the experiment himself, believing it to be an under-studied field of research.
“A few weeks later he started the experiment, he was injecting gold," said Androgenic. "And over the past few weeks, he had just descended into complete madness.
"He was just crazy. He was covered in discoloration from gold poisoning, and he was just painting his house with gold...He ended ended up covered in his own blood, running around his neighbourhood screaming, and then the police where called, and then the police chased him down, he ran into the lake, tried to escape, and we know what happened. Rest in Peace”
Another friend of Connor's, known as Tony Huge, said he had warned him about the dangers of injecting gold, but also believed the bizarre practice worked as intended.
"Up until his passing, he was discovering that he had achieved some superhuman abilities, and it's no joke; he actually did achieve some superhuman abilities," he said.
"He had tapped into a level of consciousness that most people never will."
The claims have not been confirmed by the authorities and an official cause of death is yet to be determined.
Officers arrived at the scene after neighbours reported hearing a man screaming from inside the influencer's luxury rental property.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Santirat Ngernman said: “When we arrived, he became agitated with the officers. And refused to let anyone approach him.”
From there, it is said he ran towards a nearby golf course and entered an approximately 8-foot-deep lake. According to reports, officers saw him enter the water but couldn't attempt to rescue him due to safety concerns.
Ngernman said the social media star “suddenly jumped into the lake and started swimming” before eventually disappearing beneath the surface. He added, “He was a very large, heavily built man.”
Specialist divers later recovered his body after approximately 30 minutes of searching.
Police are reported to have found two unused syringes in Connor's car and several other unidentified white tablets in his bag, though his partner said she had never seen him take drugs.
Their rented apartment was also found with paint splattered over the walls.
Prior to his death, friends of Connor's had reportedly expressed concern over his deteriorating mental health, and had considered contacting authorities in an attempt to get him proper help.
Connor had accumulated a hefty following of nearly three million across his various social media platforms where he shared content on bodybuilding, fitness, philosophy and comedy.
