Eerie moment Ann Widdecombe's Devon home was shown on TV days before her death A repeat of Celebrity Yorkshire Auction House, featuring Ann Widdecombe aired on TV, just days before the former MP and MEP was found dead at her bungalow Ann Widdecombe's home was featured in a national TV show just days before she was murdered. Viewers were able to take an extensive look inside the former MP and MEP's home in Haytor on Dartmoor in the repeat of Celebrity Yorkshire Auction House, which aired on Discovery+ on Thursday July 2. Speaking on the programme, the 78-year-old told how she loved the "peace, quiet and solitude" of her Devon retreat. But, just days after it aired, Miss Widdecombe was discovered dead there and had sustained "serious injuries". A murder probe has now been launched and it is being treated as an act of terrorism. Celebrity Yorkshire Auction House sees stars clear their homes of clutter and, in the process, they often discover hidden gems to be auctioned off for serious profit. Miss Widdecombe's episode was filmed in 2022, and was part of the second series of the show, presented by antiques expert Angus Ashworth. In the episode, the retired politician gave viewers a glimpse of her front door, garden, library, conservatory, gym and kitchen. There is no suggestion the programme inspired or had any role in the murder. Episodes are typically available on Discovery+'s site but Miss Widdecombe's one has, for now, been removed. The sequence available in series two goes from episode two to episode four, without mention of the third show. But clips from it, which are widely available on social media, show Angus visit the bungalow in Haytor, and sees the man evaluate items Ms Widdecombe wishes to sell. Viewers were given access to various parts of the property, including the front door, garden, conservatory, gym, library, kitchen, and dining area. The programme depicted the home as being on the "idyllic Devonshire coast". Ms Widdecombe was introduced on the show as a "retired politician" as she attempted to secure a particular asking price for personal possessions including her parents' Japanese Satsuma dish, a scarf, a bag and a teddy bear. The episode showed Ms Widdecombe discussing her choice to reside in the isolated property while cameras captured various areas of the bungalow. She said: "I came down here quite deliberately to be as remote as I could, as was sensible. I've got what I want, which is peace, quiet, solitude. Of course, I'm friendly with some of the neighbours. I'm not a recluse. Part of the retirement plan was to have a clear-out of old things." Upon arriving at the bungalow, Mr Ashworth, 41, remarked: "Lovely little house, isn't it?" Ms Widdecombe walked away with £1,445 following the sale of her belongings featured in the programme, with the Japanese plate fetching the highest sum at £660. The repeat episode aired in Quest's 6pm timeslot on 2 July, according to TV listings. Ms Widdecombe, 78, was subsequently discovered dead at the Haytor property. Head of National Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP), Laurence Taylor, said: "Building on the progress made by our colleagues in Devon and Cornwall Police, we now have new information and evidence that means Counter Terrorism Policing is now leading the investigation." Mr Taylor added: "We are pursuing multiple lines of enquiry to establish the motivation for this attack. Our priority is progressing this investigation quickly, with all the capabilities we have available to us. If anyone has any information, please share it with the police. "We would like to thank local communities, the wider public and the media for their ongoing support and patience, and would ask them to continue to support us in the next stage of the investigation." CTP appealed for anyone who may have any information that could help the investigation. Quest TV, which falls under the ownership of Warner Bros Discovery, was contacted for comment.
