FCC Cutting Satellite Approval Lag In Half, Chairman Says
The Federal Communications Commission has reduced by half the backlog of satellite application approvals as it broadly seeks to stimulate the space and communications economy, Chairman Brendan Carr said in an interview on Bloomberg TV.
The agency used to do “bespoke, individualized” reviews that were lengthy and not standardized, he said. “We’re fundamentally changing to an assembly line mindset” that will benefit players like SpaceX, Amazon Leo and others, he said. “We’ve cut the backlog of FCC approvals down by about half. We’re moving much faster. We’re giving people objective criteria to hit.” Previously, he said, such approvals could take months or years.
