BBC TV's Great British Menu star Ajay Kumar has said the decision to close of his Indian barbecue restaurant was difficult and called the journey "unforgettable". Mr Kumar appeared on the Great British Menu in 2024 and opened his Grilled restaurant the following year. Mr Kumar was born in Punjab, India and appeared on MasterChef in India, Malaysia and Singapore before settling in Scotland in 2009. Grilled, based in Glasgow, serves a contemporary take on traditional Indian barbecue. He confirmed the closure in a notice posted on the restaurant's website. The post reads: "After an unforgettable journey, we have made the difficult decision to close Grilled, which is now permanently no longer trading. "From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to every guest who dined with us, celebrated special moments, and supported us over the years. "Your loyalty and encouragement have meant the world to our team, and we are truly grateful to have shared so many wonderful memories with you. "Thank you once again for being part of Grilled's story. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you to Swadish soon." Customers with gift vouchers will be able to redeem them at Grilled's sister establishment Swadish, which Mr Kumar opened in Glasgow in 2019.
