Sisters find creepy photo of themselves on wall after checking into Airbnb The clip of their stay has now gone viral with the whole family left utterly speechless after making the bizarre discovery shortly after walking through the front door A family holiday took a weird turn after two sisters checked into an Airbnb and discovered a photograph of themselves adorning one of the walls of a holiday home they had never been to before. TikTok user Aubrey Birrell took to social media after checking into a short-term rental home on a trip to San Diego in California earlier this month. In an eerie find, her family noticed had themselves in a picture on the wall. The now-viral clip captures Birrell and her family reeling from the bizarre find, which had apparently been photographed without their knowledge during a past beach excursion a decade ago. In the clip, Aubrey and her family can be seen identifying the tiny figures from a large canvas, pointing out her father, sister and brother in the eerie discovery made shortly after checking in. "We're looking at this picture, and my dad is like, 'This looks like me,'" she says in the clip, "I'm like, 'Dad, what?' ... No, this is my dad. That's my sister, Libby, from 10 years ago, and that's Brady, my brother, 10 years ago." Looking flummoxed, she then simply says: "There you go. They're literally in the Airbnb." Her sister, Libby, who appears in the video and the strange photograph, seemed equal parts disturbed and amused by the weird turn of events. "It's unsettling — random Airbnb," she said, adding: "We have those swimsuits. We are literally in this picture. We are on our Airbnb wall." One person said: "Literally sounds like the start of a horror movie." A second added: "Proof we live in a simulation." While a third chipped in with: "What are the odds of you looking that closely at the picture?" Others weighed in with equally bizarre tales of their own. One TikTok user said: "Similar crazy story: My uncle got a postcard from Mackinac Island, and my grandfather was randomly in the photo eating an ice cream cone. He had passed away years earlier." Another shared: "I once checked into a hotel at the beach, in the middle of a thunderstorm. I grabbed a newspaper to hold over my head. When I got to the room, I looked at the paper, and there was a pic of my mum and [me] on the front page. It was from a festival in the beach town, three years before." While the San Diego Airbnb conundrum was indeed an unsettling experience for the Birrell family, it appeared to be a case of genuine coincidence. But it is far from the last creepy find in an Airbnb, with an Australian family moving out of a short-term rental in Perth shortly after checking in after they found a massive camera aimed squarely into the living room. A blinking red dot indicated the video camera to be on, which was in turn recorded on the family's own phones as they chronicled their own disbelief. “It’s a nice place, but there’s one thing I’m not sure about. Maybe you can help me out,” he asked his social media followers before showing the recording surveillance camera. He added: “Is that allowed in Airbnbs? Is that standard practice? I don’t think it should be allowed.” In a separate clip, the couple revealed they moved out of the accommodation shortly thereafter. They said: “The safety of our three children was what meant the most to us. Airbnb fully supported this. They said that we could move, and they would find accommodation equivalent to where we were staying, which was a four-bedroom place central to Perth CBD.” A spokesperson for Airbnb confirmed that hosts are prohibited from having any recording devices present in homes listed on its platform. "Airbnb strictly prohibits all indoor security cameras, regardless of whether they are turned on or disclosed. Only exterior cameras (like doorbell cameras) and non-recording noise decibel monitors are permitted, and their location must be clearly disclosed on the listing before booking." Hidden cameras of all kinds are completely prohibited.
